| Stirring the Shit | by Roderic Anderson May 13, 2012 | 4165 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Roderic Anderson's writing career started in Nigeria in 1978, when with Joyce Dafe he wrote a children's story book which Joyce illustrated. It was later published by African Universities Press as Omaka to the Rescue in the same series as books by Chinua Achebe, Cyprian Ekwenzi and Michael Crowder. AUP also accepted for publishing a series of chemistry text-books he wrote, Understanding Chemistry : a student's book and a teachers' guide for each year, Nine to Eleven, but `due to the political situation and financial constraints' they have never been printed. He is currently working on the last of a series of books. The first, Trailblazer, a novel based on the lives of his great grandparents, has been published in 2008 by Zeus Publications. The second, another novel, Real Life Portrait , based on the lives of his parents was published as a hard-back in October 2010 by Big Sky Publishing, and the third, Well of Life, is a memoir up to age 18, ready to go to a publisher. The fourth, Free Radical, another memoir up to age 36, he has self published. All of these works are now available as ebooks. Now living quietly in retirement he is working on the final memoir, Odyssey, age 37 up to the present. Besides writing, reading and listening to chamber music, being a long-term Marxist and socialist, he is interested in TV documentaries and current affairs and regrets that he is too old to participate in the Australian extension of the Arab Spring, hastening the end of capitalism. |

| Open the Gates: 10 odd stories of bad bosses, skinny shoppers and Hollywood pants | by Bob Fenster May 09, 2012 | 18172 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: I believe in head fakes, the crossover step and going the other way. Also, if you’re not half-cynical, you’re missing the news. I think that as soon as you say you’re going to die young and leave a beautiful corpse, it’s too late. But also, what the hell do you think anyone is going to do with that beautiful corpse? Remember the women who threw themselves into volcanoes when Valentino died? They’d never met the star and wouldn’t have liked him if they had. I believe the idiots have been running things long enough. On the other hand, it’s the smart guys who will do us in. If anything is going to save our collective butt, it will come out of nowhere. I only say that because the stuff we already know about doesn’t look that promising. I think there has never been a politician who uttered the word freedom and actually meant it. I believe in dark chocolate, black coffee and straight whiskey. Also, long running catches and short love affairs. I follow Johnny Cash, Etta James, Al Green, Joe Ely, Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell, Curtis Mayfield and Roy Zimmerman. I maintain that Reacher would be dead before he ever saw Parker coming. I can see Mel Gibson as a kind of Parker, but no way Tom Cruise can ever be Reacher. I think Luc Besson knows how to make exciting movies, but Quentin Tarantino is a second-rate hack disguising himself as a first-rate hack. If you haven’t figured it out by now, I was born in Brooklyn but live in Northern California, root for the Giants and don’t care who knows it. My other books include: Duh: The Stupid History of the Human Race Well, Duh! The Duh Awards The Big Book of Duh! They Did What!? Laugh Off Twisted They were all published by Andrews-McMeel and can be purchased wherever good books (and bad books) are sold. |

| Author bio: Who are the Literary Underground? We are writers. We are that before and above all else. We are also readers, editors, promotional masters, and graphic artists. We bring our talents together to perform all of the duties and responsibilities of a publishing house; we prepare our members’ manuscripts for public consumption. None of our members have given up their rights to their product, and each member maintains full control of the way in which their work will reach their readers – but while our members are self-published, they are never alone, and their work will show the polish of the attention of a group of professionals. We can be irreverent or respectful, disciplined or lazy, cheerful or surly – but we are never incompetent. We are the quiet revolution in the literary world. Can I join the Underground? Membership in Literary Underground is not easy; each of our members has to support the publishing efforts of all the others. If you're interested in membership, contact us at info@litunderground.com. We will carefully review all applicants and accept those who can demonstrate the willingness to contribute to the group, and that they have the time to give to the endeavor. Where can I buy Literary Underground titles? We will post links to each of our members’ works in the Store. Keep your eyes peeled. Who writes the blog? Our members, whenever they feel like it. If they feel they have something to contribute, it is submitted to the blog, reviewed, edited, and posted. Where do I get more information? Send an e-mail to info@litunderground.com. We’re friendly, but many of us have other, bill-paying gigs we have to dedicate ourselves to during the day, so answers may be a bit slow in coming. Please be patient. |

| The QT Anthology, Book One, Stories from the Web | by Kay Lawrence April 30, 2012 | 14340 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: I always loved writing stories. It was one of the few things that ever won me praise in school. I wasn't good at maths, or catching a ball, or remembering historical dates and figures, but I could spin a yarn. I announced at an early age that I planned to be a writer and keep my parents in style. Now, all these years later I am a writer, though the style I'm keeping my parents in is probably not all they might have hoped for. As a writer I'm a bit of a butterfly, flitting through age ranges and genre as the mood takes me. My children's fantasy adventure series, The Boldre Wood Trilogy, has now made its debut on Kindle in the form of Book One, Billy of Boldre Wood. Boldre Wood is home to a miniature race of people who live in the ancient trees, fighting for survival in a hostile world. Book Two will follow, hopefully, later this year. In meantime, I'm working on a collection of short stories for Kindle, 'The QT Anthology', as well as adding to the growing library of shorts on my website: http://www.quirkytales.co.uk |

| In That Quiet Earth | by Alex C. Telander April 21, 2012 | 32027 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Alex C. Telander was born in 1979 in Málaga, on the south coast of Spain, where he lived for the first nineteen years of his life, attending an English high school. He started writing with a vested interest at the age of fifteen with short stories both for class and for personal enjoyment. In his last few years at his high school, he started his own newspaper, the St. Anthony’s Gazette, where he published some of his stories, as well as a wealth of other material that he mostly wrote for the paper. At the time, he also had an interest in marine biology. With a love for America and its ways, he attended San José State University, in San José, California, majoring in biology with a concentration in marine biology. Deciding this wasn’t as concentrated as he wanted, he transferred to Long Beach State, where they offered a marine biology major. It was at the end of the first semester that he decided marine biology and, realistically, the math and physics wasn’t for him, and he would be honest and follow his real passion, creative writing. He took a number of writing classes with many talented professors, working closely under Lisa Glatt (author of A Girl Becomes a Comma Like That and The Apple’s Bruise: Stories) and Brian Alan Lane (author of Cat and Mouse: Mind Games With a Serial Killer, as well as being a well-connected and respected writer in Hollywood). He also worked for four years at the student-run newspaper, the Long Beach Union, starting as a staff writer, then News Editor, Literature Editor (which he created, getting contacts and requesting review copies from publishers), Associate Editor, and in his last year as Editor-in-Chief. Apart from various articles and book reviews, he had some short prose pieces and poetry published in the creative arts section. Alex is a writer, book reviewer, and interviewer. He’s been seriously writing for about fifteen years, starting when he was a teenager. He has finished three novels: a young adult fantasy (which he will self-publish in summer of 2012), a mystery/thriller which he is shopping around to agents, and a post-apocalyptic science fiction novel he recently finished, the first in a four-book series. He is currently working on a big historical fiction epic set in fifth century Britain called Wyrd (which is Anglo-Saxon for “fateâ€). Alex is also a reading addict, finishing an average of 100 books in the last three years, and reviews just about everything he finishes. In addition to reviewing for the San Francisco Book Review and the Sacramento Book Review, he puts all his reviews up on his website, BookBanter. BookBanter began as a dream that became a reality: you can now find more than fifty exclusive interviews on the site, both audio and written, as well as more than 600 book reviews. Alex also records audiobooks for Librivox, a full listing of which you can find on the BookBanter site. There’s also the BookBanter Column and, of course, the BookBanter Blog. In his spare time – when he’s not writing or reading – he likes to hang out with friends and family, watch incessant amounts of genre TV, and play the MMO Lord of the Rings Online. To get in touch with Alex, just shoot him an email at alex@bookbanter.net. |

He is the middle child of seven, with three older step-sisters, two younger brothers and a baby sister: William currently resides in Las Vegas, NV. He and his wife Rosa plan to retire to Mazatlan, Mexico, in a few years. Prior to his present career as a security officer at a major casino in Las Vegas, William followed his grandfather's footsteps as a professional truck driver. A career that allowed him to see parts of the country, taste various foods and to partake in a variety of adventures whenever he happen across them. During those years he considered himself to be a professional tourist. Most children of that era grew up playing outdoors. He and his friends would spend hours and hours finding things to do, and on occasion making up their own adventures. As William aged he learned to view life as series of adventures. It was on one such adventure in the winter of 1994-- he met Patte. |

| We Were Children | by Matthew Morgan April 09, 2012 | 27237 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Matthew Morgan is an emerging voice in literature. He has written many short stories which have been published in literary journals and magazines all over the world- usually in online form despite a strong bigotry toward electronic reading. His ebook short stories are currently free to readers as he believes in earning a fan-base, and would like to contribute to the world of reading rather than the world of commerce. Matthew is committed to continuing this practice even when other books by him are one day sold traditionally. 'We Were Children' is the latest collection of his short stories, while 'On Love and Other Lies' was his first anthology. Despite his short stories receiving most attention, he is a committed novelist. His first novel, 'The Sound of Startled Leaves', grew out of an early short story called 'Discovery'. It compassionately- yet with blunt honesty- examines a man who discovers his wife's infidelity and a possibly cancerous lump on his testicle on the same day. Matthew hopes to have it published and next to his anthologies soon. Join Matthew on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/MatthewMorganWriter |

| Seicentonovanta anni dopo e altri racconti | by Mattia Bertoldi March 29, 2012 | 11796 words | Read a sample |

| How I Met My Husband: The Real-Life Love Stories of 25 Romance Authors | by Michele Stegman March 17, 2012 | 36525 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Michele Stegman has loved history all her life. When she was studying history in graduate school, one of her professors quipped that she put too much romance in her research papers. She decided to put in more romance and write historical romances. Her Fortune series is following the adventures of the Fortune family through piracy and war in the 1700’s. Conquest of the Heart, her upcoming book, takes place in England in 1067, just after the Norman Conquest. It is quite different from most books that are set during the Conquest. For one thing, her hero is not a big, brash Norman conqueror. He’s a Saxon. It’s the heroine who is the Norman. Her people conquered his country, now she must conquer his heart! Michele was never interested in writing contemporary novels. But one day she was driving along, thinking of nothing in particular, when the entire plot for Mr. Right’s Baby popped into her head. She couldn’t stop thinking about it and finally decided it was a book that had to be written. Michele lives her history every day. She lives in an 1840’s log cabin, and sleeps in a 200 year old bed with her very own hero, her husband, Ron. She spins, weaves, makes her own soap, and bakes her own bread and crackers. Two cats, Chopstix and 5, demand lots of petting, but her two daughters, Kira and Shana, are the delight of her life. Michele also dabbles in art, and is a member of the Southeastern Indiana Art Guild. |

| Author bio: Dave Robinson finds that one of the joys of being a freelancer is that it lets him work from home most of the time. He also finds that one of the terrors of being a freelancer is that it lets him work from home most of the time. Home where he's comfortable; home, where the dog, cat and daughter feel it's always a good time to bug Daddy. Outside of writing he's done everything from counseling at a day camp, cleaning carpets, to managing a bookstore. Inside of writing, he's ghostwritten two novels and written two more of his own. These days he's more of an editor than a writer, but sometimes the itch still scratches. There's really not much more to say, other than that he's a reader as well as writer – he still collects comics and has read the entire decade of the fifties from Astounding, Galaxy, and If magazines. There is a universe of possibilities out there, and it's his hope that someday we'll get to see them. |

| Sampled | by Belfire Press March 04, 2012 | 22012 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Belfire Press was born of many conversations, much like the beginning of The New Bedlam Project. We bounced the ideas and plans off a couple of authors we’d worked with in the past and present. The answers to ‘Can we do it? Should we do it?’ were a resounding Yes. On October 31st 2009, we announced the formation of Belfire Press, a micro-press owned and operated by a crazy Canadian, backed by a handful of other crazy Canadians. Our first title released April 1st, 2010, followed by our grand opening and launch novel on May 1st. Since then, we’ve gone on to establish a poetry imprint and move the webzine into either bi-annual print, or yearly anthology. We publish novels, works of non-fiction and the occasional anthology or collection in both print and e-book. Jodi Lee - Editor in Chief/Publisher An editor and occasional writer, Jodi Lee has spent her entire life on the Canadian Prairies, which she credits for her over-active imagination. She’s often found slicing and dicing prose in her editorial work, or mucking about with book covers, graphics and websites in her design freelancing. Tracy DeVore - Senior Editor Tracy DeVore is a freelance editor, published in novel-length fiction. Her non-fiction work has appeared in a number of newspapers and other publications. She was the founding president of the HWA’s Indiana chapter, Indiana Horror Writers (IHW) and the RWA chapter, Gothic Romance Writers, Inc. (‘GothRom’). Though she now resides in Danville, Illinois, Tracy grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, and remains a loyal Colts fan. |

| Author bio: First-time e-writer, just trying this out. I'm based in Toronto, Canada (the other other white meat) . Hopefully you'll find some of the intended funny stuff funny. The spaghetti theory is in play here - throw enough of it at a wall and some of it will stick. Update (March 2012): It was fun writing and uploading my first e-book "Tales of the Absurdid." I'm currently writing more happy short bundles of bullsh*t. When I've got enough cobbled together, will upload it here for more harsh judgment. :o) Hobbies include semi-colons and jogging. Thanks for reading this far; gotta run. |
