Hurting Elena | by Harland Sinclair Feb. 06, 2012 | 4845 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: By any standards, I have lead an extraordinary life. Not so much through choice, but by sheer coincidence. I always just seem to be in the right place at the wrong time, or vice versa. My friends all say, “You should write a book!†I thought about doing that, but then realized that the only parts anyone would really be interested in would be . . . yeah, the sex and the erotica and the weird. So, I decided to compile a series of stories about some of my sexual exploits. Some were planned, but most were not. I have also tried to keep them in date order, so if you notice any discrepancies, I apologize in advance. These stories are all based on fact. Over the years I have just forgotten some of the minor details such as clothes, eye, hair colours and exact words spoken. But the stories themselves - believe it or not - really are true, however incredible they may seem. Some guys have all the luck. Or not, as the case may be. And there’s been a few of them, I can tell you! A shotgun up the nose really concentrates the mind! I hope you enjoy reading along as I take you through some of the strange things and interesting women I have encountered along the way in my life. At least those I remember. I shall not reveal my true identity in order to protect those who are still living, but if you recognize yourself in any of my stories . . . thanks. Or, as the case may be . . . sorry! Just so you know, I am an average white male, entrepreneur, self-sufficient, college educated and have travelled quite extensively. My ‘accoutrements’ are slightly above average and I have never, ever, cheated on a woman, or been with more than one woman at the same time (other than by request and consent). These stories all took place while I was carefree and single. I have a few favourites, and perhaps over time you would like to share with me which instances you would have liked to have found yourself in, or ones that you particularly enjoyed. Incidentally, these are all heterosexual encounters, though sometimes with more than one woman. Again, often not through choice, but chance. If my spelling and grammar and not up to scratch, skip over it; they’re just stories, not novels or medical books. Some don’t really have a story other than being a description of what actually happened, which is what makes them interesting. So please don’t leave comments such as “there wasn’t much of a story†or there was “no character developmentâ€, etc. Of course there isn’t - they’re just real-life stories intended for you to read when you have nothing better to do. Such as when you’ve been a complete dick and pissed off your woman and are now sleeping on the couch – again! Some are funny, some are sad, and some are just downright weird and have no particular story. I just hope they make for an interesting read. Recipes aren’t exciting, but we enjoy the results. Some will be quite short, perhaps only a page or two, but I’m not trying to get them into the Premium Catalogue – they’ll stay on Smashwords and my website only. I also make no apologies for the language used. If you’re easily offended by coarse, hard-hitting language and descriptions, my stories are probably not for you. I call a spade a spade. If you prefer ‘shovel’, I don’t give a shit. Some women may not like the way I refer to their bodies or the language I use, but that’s just the way it is. Some don’t mind and actually like it, others freak out. If you’re a freaker, close the story and move on. If you don’t mind, read on and kudos to you! Also, I am British (Scottish), so readers other than Brits may be confused by some of my terminology and turn of phrase. I’ll try to keep the language universal, but that’s not always possible as it may kill the gist of the story. If you don’t ‘get it’, don’t worry. Try another one. Or as we Brits would say, “Suck it and see!†(try it) Remember: No one ever lay on their death bed thinking, “I wish I hadn’t fucked so many women.†A word of warning: I am not advocating sexual promiscuity. Sexual diseases are very real. Whatever you do, PRACTISE SAFE SEX! But most of all, the next time you are with a woman, make love to her as if she were the last woman on earth and it’s your last shot. You’ll thank me for it later. And so will she. Give her all you’ve got and she’ll take you to paradise and back – trust me on this one. Been there, done that, keep going back. I have a season ticket . . . |

The Russian Blonde | by Robert Hendry Feb. 06, 2012 | 50690 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Hi there. My name is Robert Hendry, and over the past 30 years, I have 26 published Non-Fiction books in paper form. I recently decided I would like to branch out into the Fiction field, initially with a subject I have studied for a similar length of time, the Soviet Union. During that time I got to know a good deal about Soviet military hardware and operational doctrine, and after the break up of the USSR, it was interesting to actually see at first hand the stuff I had studied at a distance.Seeing a Termit Surface to surface missile fired for real beats any number of photos! The majority o COl War Era novels have a Western hero and Soviet baddies. In the 1980s, as the Brezhnev era ground to a stand, various factions view for power, and my novels have brought in a limited CIA or MI6 involvement, but the main action is between good guys and bad guys in the USSR. The First Novel to be relesed on Smashwords is "To Kill Our WOrthy Comrade", which covers a plot to assassinate the General Secretary at his dacha in the Crimea in 1981. The real 1991 plot took place at the replacement dacha just a few kilometres along the coast. The novel introduces the C-in-C of the Black Sea FLeet, Admiral Petrov who is drawn into the fight to defeat the plotters and a 19 year old girl communications rating, Lidiya. She is one of those girls who just seem to attract trouble, as you will discover in the Lidiya Petrova Series No 2 and No 3. I managed to get No 2, The Admiral's Woman on line, and if you felt that Lidiya had a pretty easy time in No 1, and landed on her feet, you will fidcover that things get a bit more hectic for the lovely Lidiya in "The Admiral's Woman". As you will have gathered I have these two very different publishing careers and I have thoroughly enjoyed both of them. As a historian, I have to rely on available sources, and imagination is not on. As a novelist, it is important to get facts right but after that the more imaginative and original the storyline the better. All the Best RObert H |

Painted Leo: Short Story | by Jade Alyse Feb. 05, 2012 | 1751 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: I was born in Winston-Salem in the early autumn of 1986, and immediately became a lover of prose and literature. At a young age, I would delve into my mother's vast book collection (Antony and Cleopatra, Romeo and Juliet, Pride and Prejudice), and a life-changing love affair was formed. I wanted to orchestrate stories like the ones I read, create new realms of thinking, new worlds, involving various types of people. I completed my first novel at 12...and I haven't put the pen down since. You'll find an array of writing styles - press releases, online exclusives, magazine articles, endorsement letters, suggesting that my interests and career goals surpass literary writing. It has always been my belief that the most important thing about writing is that it should convey the right message, in any fashion that it is presented. For my personal usage, writing has always soothed my soul, has always served as the perfect form of catharsis. |

No Cause to Die For | by David Dilley Feb. 05, 2012 | 68139 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: I grew up in the 60s and spent most of my teenage years playing in rock-n-rolls groups and experimenting with hallucinogenic drugs. I attended college in several locations but after earning over 166 credit hours I never obtained a degree because I changed majors 8 times. Through several people I had known I came to work and live at the PTL property run by the Bakers in South Carolina. After the public downfall of the PTL organization I begin working in the computer field and wound up in a high paying corporate job. I spent 10 years with a major telecommunications company, but was eventually laid off and had to scramble to find work. After the millennium I built a computer service business but watched it fail during the economic downturn. In the most recent past I have lived in a camper at several national parks and on a friend’s property but have not really had a permanent address for at least the last 10 years of my life. |

Trouble on HighGard | by Ryan S. Fortney Feb. 05, 2012 | 5702 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Thinking, always thinking. Every time his fingers hit the keyboard or pen hits paper, something new bleeds out. There's no stopping the monster machine that is Ryan S. Fortney, author of books like PaxCorpus and hilariously short stories such as White Night. But the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania born author wasn't always this way. For a long time there was a power struggle between his mind; his creativity and the outlet through which it would seethe. Growing up, he had been extremely fond of illustration and cartoons. He'd sit around watching his favorite shows and with a pencil and a little tablet, he'd mimic that particular artist's style. In his teenage years, his sketching continued, yet he could never reach the greatness that he believed to be all around him. It just never felt right. The very last thing he drew was a strange work of sorts - The face of a woman and two characters that he thought might star in a comic book series. These very characters ended up being the start of something bigger and greater, when he'd turn 23 and finally discover what outlet he would settle into, finally, after many grueling, painstaking years. Ryan S. Fortney graduated High School with a diploma and exceptionally high grades in English and literature. Later, he would attend a few college level creative writing courses and begin his descent into writer madness. |

Poetic Ramblings | by Stacy Stutz Feb. 05, 2012 | 4213 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Hi there! I never can seem to write a formal personal bio that is to my liking; it simply isn’t in my nature to be staid and proper and furthermore, referring to myself as “she†drives me a bit nuts. I’ve read that you should put your name in your bio as often as possible to drive traffic your way, I’m not interested in a virtual freeway, I much prefer the slower pace of winding roads with glorious vista’s unfolding over the rise. At heart, I am a poet; I would have my readers be those that also enjoy the journey, that take joy in life’s small moments of discovery. I am content that those who find me are those who pulled off life’s busy freeway even for a moment or two. I’m a mom, a wife, an avid reader, a writer and a poet – longest being the poet or perhaps the avid reader. My first (and so far only) contribution here at Smashwords is more of a biography that I could every write here. Lyrical Ramblings is the compilation of decades of poetic musings – they are as mercurial as a woman’s moods; they are the reflection of who I was, who I am and who I strive to be. Thank you to those of you who have downloaded my work and even more to those of you who have taken the time to leave a review! Currently, I’m working on a compilation of quirky short stories and hope to have them available in early Spring of 2012. Also, you should check out Mike Stutz's writings. No doubt I am biased, but he is a fantastic writer. ~Stacy |

After the Great Muskie Hunt | by J.G. Sandom Feb. 05, 2012 | 4180 words | Sample 30% |
| Author bio: J. G. Sandom, often referred to as the "Father of Interactive (Internet) Advertising," co-founded the world's first interactive advertising agency, Einstein and Sandom Interactive (EASI), in 1984, before launching an award-winning writing career. He is the author of nine works of fiction, including THE GOD MACHINE; GOSPEL TRUTHS; THE WALL STREET MURDER CLUB; THE WAVE; KISS ME, I'M DEAD; and CONFESSIONS OF A TEENAGE BODY SNATCHER. Born in Chicago (December 19th, 1956), raised in Europe, and a graduate of Amherst College (where he won the Academy of American Poets Prize), Sandom moved to New York City in 1979 where, for the next five years, he worked as a freelance copy writer, public relations and advertising executive, and corporate spokesperson trainer for such companies as Hill & Knowlton and Ketchum Inc. INTERNET PIONEER In 1984, Sandom co-founded Einstein and Sandom Interactive (EASI), the nation's first interactive advertising agency. It grew to become the largest digital marketing services firm when it was purchased by D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles in 1994. Sandom continued to manage EASI on behalf of DMB&B through 1996. EASI clients included: Procter & Gamble, General Motors and Mars Incorporated/Uncle Ben's Rice, among others; plus several non-DMB&B clients such as Citibank, Compaq, McDonnell Douglas, and Merck & Co. From January 1997 through October 1999, Sandom served as Director of Interactive at OgilvyOne Worldwide, a division of Ogilvy & Mather, where he grew the company from a loss of $2 million to an estimated $100 million in revenues in 30 months, and from 12 "permalancers" to 650 digital marketing specialists worldwide. In 1998, OgilvyInteractive was named "Best Interactive Ad Agency" of the year by Adweek, and won two premier Cyber Lions awards at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. OgilvyInteractive's clients included: IBM, GTE, Ameritrade, and Ford Motor Company. From November 1999 through October 2003, Sandom served as President and CEO, and then Vice Chairman of RappDigital Worldwide, the interactive arm of direct marketing/direct response agency giant Rapp Collins Worldwide, an Omnicom Company. Within a year of inception, RappDigital became one of the nation's "Top Twenty" interactive ad agencies, according to Adweek. Sandom was responsible for executive management of the company, and its growth to more than $40MM in revenues in the U.S., with 300+ employees worldwide, and offices throughout North America, Europe and Latin America - at a time of industry contraction. RappDigital Network clients included SBC Communications, Mercedes-Benz, Philips Consumer Electronics, Pfizer, and Reuters, among others. AUTHOR Following the release of THE SEED OF ICARUS (1975) and THE BLUE MEN (1981), GOSPEL TRUTHS was published by Bantam/Doubleday/Dell in 1992 (and re-issued in 2007). Since then, Sandom has written six other novels, including THE WALL STREET MURDER CLUB (Doubleday/Bantam/Dell), THE WAVE (Cornucopia Press) and THE GOD MACHINE (Random House/Bantam). Booklist called GOSPEL TRUTHS, "a splendid, tautly woven thriller...(and) an intelligent mystery of tremendous spiritual and literary depth." Library Journal said, "A masterful first novel, based on a true incident, which spins a complicated web of corruption, greed and deception." And Mostly Murder characterized it, "A fascinating mystery ... captivating and engrossing." Scott Turow, author of Presumed Innocent and Ordinary Heroes, called THE WALL STREET MURDER CLUB, "A gripping story, well-told...not only a tale of murder and betrayal, but an intelligent exploration of issues of male identity." Kirkus Reviews termed the book, "A Big Apple Deliverance, endowing New York culture with all the corrosively dehumanizing power of Dickey's wild nature...Slickly entertaining right down to the last, inevitable twist. (Film rights to Warner Brothers -- and there's no mystery why.)" And Booklist said, "(Sandom) writes with stunning elegance and nearly poetic beauty...A sure hit with any suspense reader." THE WALL STREET MURDER CLUB was optioned for Warner Bros. by Lee Rich for theatrical development; screenplay by Ronald Bass, with Joel Schumacher scheduled to direct. While known mostly as a writer of thrillers and mysteries, Sandom is also the author of several award-winning Young Adult (YA) novels, originally released under pen name T.K. Welsh, including KISS ME, I'M DEAD (formerly titled THE UNRESOLVED - August 2006) and CONFESSIONS OF A TEENAGE BODY SNATCHER (formerly titled RESURRECTION MEN - Spring 2007), both from Penguin/Dutton. New editions of both books have recently been released in softcover and eBook form under the author's birth name, and in a new collection titled TWO TEEN TERRORS, from Fangless Fables Press. Publishers Weekly called CONFESSIONS OF A TEENAGE BODY SNATCHER, "A haunting tour of London's underclass during the 1830s...Teens will likely be both captivated by Victor's harrowing story as well as his ability to prevail in the face of harsh injustices." BIG A, little a called the novel, "A moody, evocative tale...(J.G. Sandom) is fast becoming one of my favorite writers. His work transcends genre and audience classification." VOYA said, "Teen readers will thoroughly enjoy the hair-raising suspense in this historical thriller." TeensReadToo termed it, "an intense, dark work...I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes historical fiction." KLIATT said, "Like M.T. Anderson's The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing, this look at sinister events in history makes the era come alive and lingers in the memory." Jen Robinson's Book Page called the novel, "Gripping and fast-paced, filled with intriguing historical details...Highly recommended for fans of historical fiction." The Miss Rumphius Effect said, "(J.G. Sandom), where have you been? I loved this book!" And School Library Journal said, "Part historical fiction and part adventure story, the novel brings excitement to Victorian England...Readers will be on the edge of their seats." CONFESSIONS OF A TEENAGE BODY SNATCHER has been named a Junior Library Guild selection. Ranked one of the Top Ten Children's Books of the year by the Washington Post, KISS ME, I'M DEAD was named a Notable Book for Teens by the Association of Jewish Libraries Sydney Taylor Book Award Committee, a Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) Teen's Top Ten, and nominated for a Cybils literary award, a Best Books for Young Adults (BBYA) by the American Library Association (ALA), and recently added to Horn Book's list of Recommended American Historical Fiction. The Washington Post said, "(J.G. Sandom) writes with a precision and delicacy unusual for YA fiction," and called the novel, "a subtle gem." School Library Journal said, "KISS ME, I'M DEAD tells a remarkable story in a remarkable way." Horn Book Magazine called the work, "A decidedly unconventional ghost story . . . (and) a tightly wound novel." Kirkus Reviews termed it, "A remarkable account." Romantic Times said, "KISS ME, I'M DEAD is a book you shouldn't pass up." Midwest Book Review called the novel, "a wonderfully different kind of ghost story." And Bookslut.com said, "KISS ME, I'M DEAD scores on several levels, most notably as a drama that blows apart all preconceived notions of how history can be retold." THE GOD MACHINE was released in May, 2009. Caroline Thompson (author of Edward Scissorhands) said, "Move over, Dan Brown...All hail J.G. Sandom...(THE GOD MACHINE) is a thrilling and breathless, rapturously-written and mind-blowing read. It'll keep you up all night, turning pages as fast as your little fingers can manage." Bookpage.com said "Sandom has a knack for combining legendary gospels, ancient secrets, star-crossed lovers and Masonic puzzles to create a simmering stew of conspiracy, intrigue and danger that keeps the plot pot boiling until the very end." And the Historical Novels Review said, "History galore, violence, and intrigue fill the pages of this tightly plotted, twisting and turning adventure story, reminding one of a multilayered Russian matryoshka doll. The reader will also learn a great deal about da Vinci, Ben Franklin, Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, and many more historical geniuses...Those who love numbers, physics, and a truly unpredictable, suspenseful mystery will relish the facts and ponderings replete in this well-written, mysterious spin-off of The Da Vinci Code. THE GOD MACHINE is a very impressive historical thriller!" Sandom's most recent novel, THE WAVE, was reissued in June 2010 by Cornucopia Press. Kirkus said, "Sandom's strength lies in the verve of his story, with writing that has both muscle . . . (and) brains . . . Races from improbable to crazywild, all in good fun, with Sandom always one step ahead . . . A story with enough manic energy to be worthy of a nuclear explosion." Sandom continues to consult in the world of interactive advertising and digital marketing communications through his Cyber Branding Solutions consultancy, and is currently working on a new novel. | Author bio: Hi. I have had so many admirers after people have seen my picture. (Thank you Darren, but i am basically male and besides, you are a married man. Behave.) Is that really you they ask? I'll level with you. That is a picture of my younger sister!!! I know. Good looks run in the family, usually in the opposite direction. I was 243 on my last birthday, and the last batch of embalming fluid didn't quite hit the spot. If you saw the real me, you too would run a mile. Anyway, I have a twitter account now, which means (I think) people can leave me messages. Happy to get comments about my books. hhtp//unclegarf.wordpress.com. So. I have the third in the series bubbling away, and the lovely Fred Ducket will have some fun. You know me by now. I don't write words. I just write stories. Get stuck in. For anybody who gives a damn, in my face book thing, the black dog is Minnie. The rural scenes are outside my front door. I live in a small town, population 1407 and me, about two hours drive north from Wellington, capital of New Zealand. The Tararua Ranges are close by and they go on for miles, dividing east from west. The Tasman Sea is about twenty minutes away by car going west. Most of my stories are set in NZ, and I think that gives them a different flavour. For anyone reading One Man's Dream, the Turakina Valley is as described in the book, including the 17 acres. I'm from the Midlands in England, originally. I hope you are liking my stuff. I am always happy to get constructive criticism, just be gentle with me. see you on Facebook. Thanks for your support, Gary AKA Shannon Levin. |

Best Books for Young Adults - The SECRET AT CHiCHEN iTZA! | by Casey Grace & Landis Grace Feb. 04, 2012 | 51296 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Living in an ancient Mayan world nestled in the virgin jungles of the Yucatan has given my 12 year old daughter Landis and I encounters of a lifetime. Our Mayan friends have shared with us many secrets of their culture and we have experienced many of their customs and ceremonies. There are many mysteries and legends of this ancient race, and my daughter Landis and I started this series to share some of these fascinating traditions in a fun mystery book which educates the readers not only into the everyday life of the traditional Mayans still living in pueblitos but into authentic ancient customs through flashbacks in the book. Landis and I are Canadian, so I am thrilled that my daughter is completely fluent in her second language of Spanish, so we added some easy-to-remember Spanish words to teach readers a little of the language. All of the facts throughout the book are true, but they are presented in an entertaining fictional style with a closing message of integrity and wholesomeness. We are writing our next Landis Adventure book called “The Mystery at Isla Mujeresâ€, which takes place on a beautiful island nestled off the coast of Cancun, in the aquamarine waters of the Caribbean Sea. |
