Boys look at the Stars - Ping-Pong | by Enzo Pettinelli Jan. 16, 2012 | 34887 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: Enzo Pettinelli at 8 years old begins to play ping-pong in the parish church of San Martino, in Senigallia. When playing double matches with his twin brother Giovanni as a partner, they are invincible. Enzo, like all children, plays football, volleyball, swims, skates. In skating he is 4th at the National Championship. When he is older he dedicates himself to ping-pong, right up to the National championship of B division. Then he feels that ping-pong can be played in a different way. He is fascinated by the musicality of the rhythm and by the beauty of the technical gesture. He leaves the agonistic activity and dedicates his time teaching this Sport. Three young lyceum students follow him: one of them, Domenico Ubaldi, will become later the President of “Tennistavolo Senigalliaâ€, a club founded by them in 1959 and in 2010 rewarded by the CONI with the Gold Star for Sports merit. The first Italian titles arrive. For the 100th anniversary of the reunification of Italy, two youngsters of Pettinelli’s school are called to join the national team at the International exhibition in Tourin in 1961. After this event the parish priest of San Martino, Father Giuliano Grassi, covers the courtyard and creates a little gymnasium. A sales representative of sport equipment, Neri Ravini, accidentally sees the gymnasium, he gets touched by seeing so many little children around just one “rickety†table, and gives 3 bright new tables as a gift. The game, based on aesthetic beauty and on musicality, gives more incentive and new Italian titles. A sponsor, Otello Montesi, gives economic help, without asking nothing back. The results come and bring the Club at the first place in Italy. The school, already opened, opens further, and receives players from all Italy. Including players that play or have played against each other . Pettinelli will be many times the Italian National team’s coach, coach of the Republic of San Marino. Honorary Member of the Republic of Malta, for the given collaboration. Among his pupils we remember: Costantini, record of presence with the National team; Moretti, Cardinali and Ricci that will be many times at the World Championship, European Championship and at the Mediterranean Games. The work and passion of this “Great Teacher†for ping-pong, has inspired the film director Claudio Colombo that has realized a feature film, “Shotâ€, already winner at two festivals, dedicated to him. Among the actors we remember Enrico Beruschi, that has skilfully interpreted Enzo Pettinelli’s part. Enzo, come tutti i bambini, gioca a calcio, pallavolo, nuota, pattina. Arrivano i primi titoli italiani. |

Love Sweet Love - Part 1 | by Dave Corrick Jan. 07, 2012 | 149946 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: I was born in Christchurch New Zealand and have, for a number of years lived in Auckland. My qualifications are in engineering; however from the years 2000 to 2009 I dedicated my time to creative computer programming. I essence I developed software to run on the Windows platform and then marketed it. It required some application of imagination to develop software and in 2009 I used this same imagination to write my first book. This was something I have always wanted to do and quite frankly, once I started I enjoyed it immensely. Close by to where we live (that's my wife Julie, and me) there is a delightful bush lined stream where we walk most days. It's a beautiful natural oasis in suburban Auckland. This stream was where with a little imagination the two "Louie the Bee" books were "born". The "Louie the Bee" books are available from Amazon, and Barnes and Noble in hard copy form and a few sell. However I must say the greatest pleasure I gain from writing is seeing the pleasure others get from reading the stories I have created. I feel I have achieved this when I see how the "Louie the Bee" books, that are here in our Auckland libraries; are always in demand. Seeing this has been the absolute true pleasure of writing for me. Subsequent to the "Louie The Bee Books", I was motivated to write the two "Love Sweet Love" books, by the despair I feel at what man is doing to the planet and how inevitably we will bring about our own demise. In reading "Love Sweet Love" you will know what I mean! Currently "Love Sweet Love" is only available in eBook format from Smashwords and Amazon Kindle. Dave |

Heart Of A Soldier | by Josh Isaacs Jan. 06, 2012 | 4931 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: I'm a 21 year old who wants to change the world. Due to the unlikelihood of that happening, I'll settle for changing you if you'll let me. I've had no formal creative writing training nor have I gone to college, though that is in the works. I've not even read any classical literature; what I write is purely me and my own, as repulsive and coarse as that may be. I've written about a half-dozen short stories, most of a novel, and over a hundred complete song lyrics(some use poetic devices, most don't, aside from rhyming). Not looking to make money from my stories--at least not until I've taken classes for writing. I'm also a guitarist, a wannabe singer and a terrible pianist. In a world of synth-driven, auto-tuned chart toppers, the kind of musician that I hope to be is quickly becoming obsolete. May each universe you create be as filled with imagination and wonder as this one. Please alert me to any ways you feel I can improve my style of writing. Rates, comments and criticism are not only welcome, but much appreciated. |

The Whore | by Paul Dyer Jan. 03, 2012 | 6893 words | Read a sample |
| Author bio: I graduated with a master’s degree in English and Critical Theory from Pepperdine University, Malibu, where I also worked for several years as a Humanities Discussion Leader and a Writing Center Tutor. Then, while pursuing my writing, I worked at a video store that specialized in out-of-print, hard-to-find, art house, and adult films. I’ve even worked for the Catholic church, but that’s another novel. I like genre fiction, but even here I tend to interject social commentary and critique. I once quipped to a friend that the best novel for me would be a series of Platonic dialogs (relating to contemporary social issues), liberally interspersed with subversive pornography. Without loss of character and story. I’m still fumbling my way toward this literary ideal. |
