It was a warm spring day

as the bus drove on its way.

Aboard the big, yellow bus

there were ten people making a fuss.

They were going on a college tour

and it was already becoming a bore.

It was hot, sticky, and muggy

and nobody thought it was funny.

They all put the windows down

and GSU is where they were bound.

Some students turned their headphones on

while others began to take out their cell phones.

The first to lay his head down

was the best basketball player in town.

He had been playing ball since he was four

and during the game he always had the highest score.

Everyone knew that he was the one,

but his only problem was that he was dumb.

In class he rarely paid attention

but you would never catch him in detention.

His teachers would pass him just for fun

because like I said he was the one.

The girl sitting next to him paid him no mind.

She was busy looking in the mirror, seeing if she still looked fine.

This girl was known as the most attractive in school

but she never gave her heart out because she wasn’t a fool.

She had been hurt by every Tom, Dick, and Harry

and she knew that she never wanted to get married.

When she was younger, she fell in love with a boy named Trey

and in his heart she thought she would stay.

Then she found out he was cheating on her

and her life suddenly became a blur.

She never told him that she was pregnant

and before the baby was well developed,

she got rid of the little soul

and this horrible secret she never told.

This is why she kept to herself

and hated the cards that she was dealt.

Beauty was nice and sweet

but never knowing where her heart would sleep

was always in her mind

and would be there until the end of time.

The girl sitting behind them was more of a scare.

She wore black everyday and didn’t seem to care.

She was known as the Goth one

and her skin looked like it never touched the sun.

Her family was so lazy,

it’s no wonder she turned out crazy.

Growing up on her own,

not really having a true home,

she turned to the dark side

and began to lie.

She covered up her hurt

by wearing makeup darker than dirt.

She read books on casting spells

and if she really performed them no one could tell.

Her reason for college was to get out of town

and maybe find something to turn her face from a frown.

The girl sitting next to her was not quite the same.

She helped cheer players on during the football games.

Decked out in an outfit that screamed black and red,

this girl practiced routines every night before bed.

With a voice that rang out in cheer

Whenever she talked people ran in fear.

With her preppy, annoying talk

and her stupid cheerleading walk.

She is despised

and not being able to cheer would be her demise.

Her purpose for college was to start her career

and she knew that her cheerleading fame was near.

There was a boy who sat close to the door

and his life was really a bore.

He always had his nose in a book

and he never really had any looks.

Science and math were his passion

and the clothes that he wore were very old-fashioned.

He had been looking at colleges since he was fifteen

and becoming a rocket scientist was his biggest dream.

But college proposed a huge fear.

This boy never partied or even drank a beer.

His older brother was like him in every way

until he went to school and started to sway.

He joined a fraternity

and stopped doing everything.

He became a drunk

and college he flunked.

This scared the child

who didn’t want anything on his permanent file.

His plan was to stay on track in school

and not end up like his brother who was a fool.

The girl sitting behind him was the first to speak.

She was the one everyone knew as the freak.

Since 9th grade she lived up to her name.

She had been with everyone who played in the sporting games.

She used to be nice and sweet

until this boy swept her off her feet.

He treated her well

and she was soon under his spell.

So whenever he told her to come through his hood,

she was sure to make him feel real good.

Soon he finally dumped her

and why, she began to wonder.

She felt like she wasn’t doing something right

and it stayed on her mind all through the night.

So she began to go out with lots of boys

and used them only as her toys.

She was only going to college for the men

and knew exactly what she wanted from them.

The boy sitting next to her said, “Shut up and stop acting like a fool.”

He was known as the sexiest in school.

He was popular among the ladies

while all the boys continued hating.

He came a year ago

and had all the girls in love on the low.

He had a beautiful smile

that drove all the girls wild.

But with all the girls he had,

he treated them real bad.

He made them do all his work

and talked to them like they were lower than dirt.

And whenever a girl would get out of line,

he would sweet talk them and they would be just fine.

He never felt the urge to study

because he got help from all his female buddies.

He knew college was going to be a breeze.

All he needed were new girls on his sleeve.

There was a boy who sat far in the back

and everybody knew he was addicted to crack.

He had been doing drugs since he was thirteen

and now he had become a true fiend.

Doing whatever he could for money.

He used to be smart, but now he’s a dummy.

Having no father at home

and his mother ignoring him because she was so alone.

The boy turned to drugs

whenever he needed a hug.

First, he started with weed

but it couldn’t fulfill his need.

So he began smoking crack

even when his teachers said it was whack.

He loved to get high

and it was his only way to get by.

He sold drugs on the side

and decided to take this bus ride.

He knew that college was not his place.

He was just going for the ride so he could get some space.

The girl sitting behind him was quieter than anyone had been

and she held a very dark secret within.

When she was only five,

in a car accident her mother had died.

She stayed with her father

which wasn’t much of a bother.

Until he started drinking

and began acting without thinking.

Losing his one true love

to the good Lord above,

he began to yell and scream

whenever the girl did anything.

Soon the yelling turned to blows

and once he even gave her a bloody nose.

Using makeup, her black eyes were concealed

and she feared for her life if her secret were revealed.

So she kept it all in

and began to pretend,

that her life was just right

and she didn’t have to avoid fights at night.

Her reason for college was a simple plan.

She needed somewhere to escape from her father’s hand.

The last person was the driver of the bus

who had been doing this for years and was used to the fuss.

He looked like he was in his middle years

and had far too many beers.

He had been a truck driver for most of his life

and this caused his true love to become his ex-wife.

She hated all the days when he was gone

and especially the nights when she was left alone.

She tried to be supportive

but when she became pregnant she wondered if,

if he would be a good father

or if they would be too much of a bother.

And when the baby arrived

the man was hardly there to provide.

The woman was so tired

that she silently prayed that he would get fired.

And before the baby had his first birthday,

the woman packed up and moved away.

The man saw his child no more

and that was the reason he started doing these tours.

He hoped that one of them would lead him to his little boy,

but he was never given this joy.

They all had one thing that was the same

to find new meaning and possibly change.
