Love Song

by Joan Dooley

I can think of the view for a moment or two,

Or even the cost of my fare.

I consider my tea for a moment or three,

But longer than that would be rare.

Thoughts of you fill my day in a wonderful way

Of this I do not complain.

But must you intrude in a manner quite rude

When I’m reluctantly cleaning the drain?

My heart is not in it but just for a minute

My whole attention it needs.

If no one will do it the fresh air will rue it.

So I must pull out the weeds.

But then you appear, I wish you were here,

For I find reality best.

So all I can say in the time honoured way

Is, will you be my guest?

This plunger is perished and I want to be cherished,

So won’t you come to me dear?

Just come with a plumber or I’ll be here all summer

And won’t be nice to be near!

I’ve been here since dawn and I feel so forlorn

And I want your loving the most.

I’m ready to sink and I do need a drink

So won’t you be my host?

I was so much in love when I wrote the above

But I’ve come down to earth with a bump.

He wasn’t all that and began to get fat

And that’s what gave me the hump.

So we said our goodbyes, no tears in my eyes

And I left poor tubby alone.

I’m going to mingle I hate being single

So may I borrow your phone?
