He had made first contact. He had spotted her, sitting next to a window, staring out of it with the expression of a hurt girl. He had approached her carefully, making sure not to scare her away. The man sitting across from her had eyed him suspiciously from behind his newspaper as he sat down next to her, but didn’t take further notice of him.

He made some appropriate small talk, then asked some inappropriate questions. Her boyfriend, correction, ex boyfriend, had phoned her, and had said the magical words “Babe, we need to talk.”. She had taken the first train, traveled two hours just to hear him say those other cursed words “Sweety, it’s not you, it’s me!”. She was on her way back home now. Score.

He had promised himself not to do this any more. He could get caught. Although he was of course very clever, the stupid bitch could mess everything up. But she was such an easy target, almost too easy… Never mind that, he just had an eye for this.

After comforting her and holding her hand, making sure he did nothing to make her suspect anything, she had asked him to come to her house for some coffee. Oh, foolish girl, didn’t your parents teach you to never take strangers home?

He had walked her to her door like a perfect gentleman. She trusted him, he could sense it. It was time. She turned her back on him, happily chatting while preparing the coffee, that miserable girl. He slowly moved behind her, slowly pulling his knife from behind the belt of his trousers, relishing the moment. Her smooth neck, so inviting. He lifted the knife, preparing to slash it into her soft and weak flesh.

She had him. Did he really think she was so stupid? That she didn’t see his greedy eyes? Oh no, she got him exactly where she wanted him to be. Preparing coffee, that’s what he thought she was doing. He should look better. She was heating a big pan of boiling water indeed, but it was not meant for a nice warm beverage no, it was meant for a well done human head. She could see his shadow in front of her. Saw him raise his arm, saw him getting ready to strike… And exactly at that moment, when the small blade started its curve towards her, she grabbed the pan from the stove and splashed its searing contents into her attackers face. The surprised look in his eyes made her grin. It didn’t last long. The look of surprise changed into agony when his brains finally noticed the burning and bubbling mess that was once his head. He opened his mouth trying to cry out, but only managing a moan, still holding his knife into the air. It looked so comical, it made her laugh. Stupid little bastard. Ah well, she had had her fun. It was time to finish it. She lifted her pan once again to strike a final blow.

He sighed and put his paper away in the pocket of his jacket. Pulled out his automatic gun from its holster, squeezed his left eye shut, stretched his arms out in front of him through the open window and shot the woman that was hitting the man with the molten face with a pan between the shoulder blades. She fell down over the man, that had stopped making any sound a long time ago. He waited a minute for any sign of movement. Then he let out another deep sigh, put his gun away, took his newspaper from his pocket and walked through the backyard to the street. Stupid little kids, always made a mess of it. Good riddance, any way. That was the last thing he thought before a sharp snapping sound indicated the breaking of his neck.
