*****

To Source

This book is dedicated to the Almighty, Everlasting Source who is the Origin of All Being, also known by humanity as God, Goddess, Yahweh, Allah, Father, Mother and countless other names throughout all time. Also, I wish to thank the Archangels, Angels and other Warriors of Light for their help and guidance over the years to bring forth the help and information for those in need of their assistance.

*****

Forward

After having performed many types of exorcism on people, objects, animals, buildings and geographical areas under the direction of Spirit, I began teaching others how to do so as well. As the years went by students became practitioners of the removal of Darkness, not by condemning the entities, but by sending them back to their Creator. This is a fictional "based on a true story" tale of some of those people. Many blessings and thanks to them and the Spirits who made the retelling of those tales possible. Names and the order of the situations have been changed.

Chapter 1 ~ Mara

Mara pulled herself from the car's passenger side and stood up shutting the door behind her. Drawing in a deep breath, she carried a message of deep urgency, but calmed herself enough to turn and speak to her daughter.

"Come back for me in an hour," Mara whispered. Her daughter nodded in silent response and drove off, leaving Mara standing in front of the vintage, blue, two story house built in the 1920s.

She stood there for a moment in her jeans and t shirt and ran a thin brown hand through her thick, black, shoulder length hair. Mara was just over the half century mark in human years and it showed in the lines in her face that those years had not always been kind to her. She had just returned from another trip to Chinle, on the Navajo Reservation in northern Arizona, her part time home and birthplace. There was much unrest in both the realm of the living and the spirit there and help was needed.

Mara's adult life was spent between the world of the reservation and the white man's world, trying to learn from both and find her place between them. In her younger years she had married, had six children and divorced a non-native man. Their children, most of who were adults now, were spending more time in their father's world. Mara found herself stretched between the needs of her adult children and her people.

She had come to a decision that she would not only learn the ways of the Spirit and healing amongst her own people, but also those teachings she could receive in the world her children chose to live in as well. Mara was lead to this conclusion because her own gifts dealing with spiritual matters had begun to open and she was pushed hard by Spirit towards a teacher to give her what she needed to further her development.

The teacher appeared in Mara's path by word of mouth. A woman who didn't care that Mara could not pay for teaching, but who knew of her gifts and was told by Spirit to teach this Native American child of Spirit anyway. Many of this teacher's real students came this way. Mara had been learning from this teacher for a couple of years now and had been told it was time to spread her wings and do the Work with Spirit. Most of the work had been within her abilities, but not this time. This time she needed help. She took in another deep breath, grounding herself and walked up to the door and knocked.

Chapter 2 ~ Request

Inside the bottom floor of two story blue house was a place of business, learning and healing that was not quite open for the day. Ruth had run a variety of errands, purchased cleaning goods for the place and had come in early to clean and maybe squeeze in some meditation time in the healing room before opening the doors to the public.

She was deep in meditation attending a meeting with many Spirits concerning a journey that needed to be taken and was being encouraged to put everything aside for this journey. It was of dire necessity that it be done. Those who would journey with Ruth would be tested and had much to learn. None of this learning could be done or taught in another manner. Ruth was suddenly jolted by the loud knocking at the door. It brought her right out of the meditation and into a sitting position on the healing table.

"Coming!" she yelled while noting the time on the wall clock was still an hour before opening time. Looking out the door's window, she recognized Mara and unlocked the door to let her in. Mara walked in quickly and Ruth closed and locked the door behind her.

"Back from the Rez, I see. What's up?" Ruth asked Mara.

"I need to talk to you about Chinle," Mara began. "There are many people who are spiritually and physically sick and I need to know who's doing it. There is a lot of talk of people being 'witchcrafted'. It is a thing we say when someone is casting black magic on others. I have tried to work with healing the people but, there is something bigger going on here. I can't figure out what it is or where it is coming from. I need help. Can you come to the Rez?"

Ruth mentally recalled the meeting in her meditation. This was a journey to take and there would be much more going on than Mara could imagine.

"Come and sit down. Who do your people think is doing this witchcrafting?" she inquired of Mara as they made themselves comfortable on the folding chairs in the classroom.

"There are shaman, medicine men who practice a path called skin walking. Some practice for good, but many practice in the Dark powers to get what they want from people," Mara said warily, "but one has to be careful who they speak to. There are a lot of superstitions and people can turn on you quickly."

"Give me your definition of what a skin walker does," Ruth requested.

Mara chose her words carefully. "They are those who can go into a trance state and walk on the spirit plane while still alive in body. They disguise their true identity by taking on the identity of an animal spirit's skin to hide themselves. They draw their power from the souls and spirits they have trapped and imprisoned on the mesas or mountains of the land."

"Sounds like more than just your people need help, Mara. Sounds like there needs to be a clearing of the land and a release to Source of all that should not be there," stated Ruth. "and much more than that," she quietly continued in her own thoughts.

Then aloud, "How soon does this journey need to be, Mara? I would like to bring some others with us. It will be a time of learning and experience that both you and they will not get anywhere else. I would like to give people at least a week's notice.

Mara let out a breath of relief, "A week will be good. I will get word back to the Rez that we are coming. My brother has a phone that is a land line. It is one of the few land lines in the area. He can get the word out at the Chapter house and it will spread. Cell phones do not work on the Rez. No signal. No internet either, except at the college. There is no electricity where we will be at and no running water. Those who are going with us have to bring their own food and drinks. It's really a 'Third World' in America. The one people tend to forget about," she finished sadly.

Ruth looked at her and read into the body language. The request was genuine and from the heart and more important it was backed by Spirit that this journey be made. "I'll make the calls and get it ready," she assured Mara, who let loose a silent stream of tears in gratitude.

Chapter 3 ~ Side Trip

Things inside the blue house were buzzing. Ruth and Mara had their personal belongings for the trip packed inside Mara's car and were deciding what equipment would go in the second vehicle which, had not yet arrived, when Lewis strolled in with his bedding under one arm and a backpack over his shoulder while holding two plastic grocery bags by the handles in his free hand. Lewis was a 6 foot tall, 19 year old Yaqui Indian who was raised in the city and a pretty much spiritually gifted free soul who was in need of some common sense and maturity. He was always up for hands on experience and was excited about making this trip.

Mara looked him over. He had on a t-shirt and baggy long shorts and thin Keds sneakers with no socks.

"Do you have a jacket and long pants? It does get cold on the Rez at night and the winds can blow a good part of the day and night," she snapped at him.

"I have long pants in my backpack. I can wear a blanket if I get cold. What can I help with?" He cheerfully snapped back. Nothing was going to damper his enthusiasm.

Ruth instructed, "When the second vehicle gets here these larger items are to be loaded in it."

Ron staggered in the door with the weight of several grocery bags, his blankets, pillow and duffle bag. A military veteran, white, 52 years old, scruffy beard and hair in need of a trim, sandals and clothes to match. He could have been mistaken as a homeless person, but this was his normal look. He came in and set everything down.

"You look like you have enough food here for a month!" exclaimed Ruth. "We need to go through your groceries and see what is actually necessary. You just have too much here." She opened one of the bags and pulled out a couple of half full jars, "You have three jars of partially used jam and jellies in here. Just pick one and leave the others behind. We don't have room for all this. Mara, can you help him? I have a sign to put up on the door." With that said Ruth walked across the room and picked up the tape and a paper 'Closed for a Week' notice, sighed and turned and shook her head at Ron's collection of bags.

Lewis snickered at the fact someone else was catching hell. He scooped up a massage table and carried it outside and busied himself with other equipment that was to be packed into the second vehicle.

A brown SUV drove up and parked at the curb and the driver's side door opened. Out stepped Robert, short, pot-bellied and in his late 40s, with his brown t-shirt and old cargo vest, jeans, worn boots and scruffy old cowboy hat that had beads and feathers tied where one would usually find a hatband. His hair was long and stringy and braided in the back. His hair was already sprinkled with long strands of gray that reflected the sun. Around his neck was his personal medicine bag. He had some Cherokee blood in him somewhere, though he didn't look it other than in his attire.

He greeted Lewis and unlocked the back of the SUV and they started loading the equipment.

Ruth came up and decided Robert needed warning, "Ron has a bunch of grocery bags of food. We did our best to thin out his loot, but he insists on not leaving much behind. See what you can fit in here and if you have any room in your cooler, you might be able to shove some of it in there. He can be such a pack rat." She then turned to Lewis, "At least Ron brought a jacket." Then to Robert, "The guys are riding with you. Mara and I are in the lead vehicle. Oh, and just to let you know, we are making a side trip to Sedona on the way. Spirit has something for us to do there. I'll fill you in later. Just stay close and keep a cell phone on for further directions."

Robert and Lewis looked at each other and then at the figure of Ruth as she disappeared back into the blue house.

Lewis had been on trips with Ruth before. "You haven't been on a trip with her before, have you?" Robert shook his head and Lewis continued, "We are on a Spirit guided road trip. Anything can happen."

Chapter 4 ~ Sedona Vortexes

Sprawled across the hood of Mara's car was an old Arizona map. Ruth and Robert hung over it as Ruth traced her finger over the route they would be taking.

"The I-17 going north to the 89 is the direct route," Robert said. Ruth nodded in agreement then, signaled that they were ready to roll. They divided into two separate vehicles and headed north towards their destination.

For a time they drove in silence but, Mara had questions, "Why are we being directed to make the side trip to Sedona?"

Ruth hesitated for a second, listening to the astral plane for the spirit who had delivered the message of the assignment to come forward before explaining to Mara, "Over the years more and more people have been going to Sedona and dumping their negative energy there thinking they would be healed by the energy vortexes. This concept made Sedona so famous and people started to swarm the area looking for a cleansing and 'energy high' they could take from the area. Long ago the vortexes were healthy and were actually able to heal and balance an individual's energy, but as the years went by more people came to Sedona to take, but not give back. They dumped their energy, their toxic energy, into the area without respect for the area. People moved to the red rocks and they did not respect the spirits of the land, the energy or the real reasons for the vortexes. They only thought of themselves and their selfish greed for making a profit off the land and its energy. The place became a tourist trap, damaging the flow of the energy in the area and now many of the vortexes are sick. The sick ones need to be closed so new ones can open."

She paused for a moment and tilted her head to hear the voice of the spirit that was relaying the message to answer Mara's question. She then continued, "Some vortexes are no longer a place of positive energy because of the human activities and have been confiscated by Darkness. These vortexes have been made into the Dark One's home, an entrance to their astral world and they are feeding on greed and disrespect of the people. We are to go and close down these vortexes, remove the entities of Darkness that reside there and clear the area," she concluded.

Mara and Ruth rode in silence as Mara considered what had been said. It was a big piece of work. Mara had done geographical clearing before, but this was different. The people in the second vehicle had not been exposed to this type of clearing before. It would be interesting to see how they could handle it.

Behind them on the road the SUV stayed close, following the lead car. As they got closer to Sedona and the red rocks were visible Ruth decided to have cars pull over to the side of the road. The men followed and parked their car close behind Mara and Ruth.

Ruth instructed them, "Stand back from the road and spread out a few feet from each other."

They did as instructed standing off several feet away from the smaller red rocks and brush away from traffic.

"Close your eyes and look in the direction straight in front of you in your mind's eye," she continued, "What color do you see in front of you?"

As each member of the group responded it became apparent they were all seeing a red color with their eyes closed and they were not facing in the direction of the sun.

"Now with turn to your right," Ruth again instructed, "and what color you see there?"

Again the color was red.

"Turn again to the right and what color do you see?"

This time the color was neutral beige.

"Turn one more time to the right. What color do you see?" Ruth asked again.

Beige was the color.

"Go back to the first direction where you saw the red. This is an area has been affected by peoples negative energy. What happens when an area becomes immersed in this kind of energy?"

"Dark energy attracts dark entities, who can use that energy and build a home there," Lewis said quickly.

"Right," said Ruth, leaving Lewis all smiles and doing a victory dance over the fact he got the answer out before the older men.

"It's not a competition, Lewis," she added seeing his over enthusiasm. He stopped and pulled himself into check.

"This is where we will start looking at the shape is the color red that you saw. Look again if you need to. What do you see?" she inquired.

"There is a spinning spiral," reported Robert. "I have seen red before, but not like this. Not with the spinning."

"Good," said Ruth. "The spinning means there is a vortex present. It means it is not just negative energy sitting there. Now tune into the red color and ask the Spirits of the Light, the angels and the other Warriors of the Light to assist you in closing this damaged vortex. Reach with your minds and your energy into the vortex, in the company of the Light, and ask the Energy of the Creator to be with you and run through you during this work. Be the light and see how deep within the vortex you must go. Observe the place of Darkness. Is there darkness further within or is it only on the surface? Go deep with the Warriors of Light and angels who are with you to gather the darkness and burn it off with the Light of Source. Determine whether it is just the energy that people have left behind or entities that have taken up their home there. Remove the entities with the help that is with you. See that they are removed and return them to Source, to the Light. Take notice of all that you experience, how you feel, what you see and what you hear." Ruth paused to observe how they were doing.

Mara stood with her feet grounded and spread for balance. Ron swayed back-and-forth unbalanced, while Lewis had to sit down.. The energy was so great he had a hard time standing. Robert had gone into trance, but stood firmly in position. They stayed like this for a period of time. One by one they started to come back to normal as the work was coming to completion.

"Now what color is the vortex?" Ruth asked the group.

"Beige," They replied in unison.

"Right. Is it closed or just cleared?" She asked, testing their observations.

"Cleared and closed," responded Robert.

"Tell the group how you know this," Ruth requested.

"It turned beige," he began," and then the spinning stopped, meaning the vortex is no longer there," he concluded.

"Right! The removal of the sick, dark vortex and any dark entities now leaves the energy of the area able to produce a new, clean vortex to replace the old one." Ruth said. Now then, it's time to clean up the vortex in the other direction in which you saw red. Shake it off, take a deep breath and start again."

They turned to the direction of the second red vortex and worked hard until the vortex was cleared. The men were showing signs of weariness. This was hard work requiring that the physical, mental and spiritual part of each person be engaged and focused. Only Mara and Ruth were not so affected like the rest of the group having experience of this kind clearing other geographical locations in the past.

One by one Ruth asked each of the members' to describe their experience with the vortex. Each was different in its own way because of individual perceptions, but they agree that the inside of the vortexes, before clearing, were filled with dark energy and that there were dark entities living within. The inside of the vortexes were lined with dripping oil like substance and the energy was thick and heavy and slippery. This was the general consensus of the group.

"Time to move on," said Ruth. "The day is young."

.It took a few minutes for some of them to recover before getting back into the cars. They stopped and continued to clear vortex after vortex until they hit the town of Sedona. Driving up the main street of the town one can see all the tourist shops. There were signs covering the buildings and people on the street hawking their wares and services. You could rent a car, a jeep, a guide or even a helicopter to tour the Sedona red rock vortexes.

It reminded Ruth of being at a giant carnival, "So much disrespect for the sacred," she said under her breath.

Mara heard her and silently nodded in agreement while trying to navigate through the traffic and sea of tourists. They found parking on a side street and got out of the car. The men found a parking space fairly close and joined them.

Noting the men were tired and had over extended themselves because of their inexperience with clearing and closing vortexes, Ruth told them, "You have two hours to go grab lunch, see the sights and come back so we can move on. We have a long way to travel before the day's end."

Looking relieved that they were getting a break, they took off together and blended into the rest of the crowd.

Ruth and Mara walked up the Main Street and found a place to eat and discussed what had happened during the closing of the vortexes. They walked to the edge of town, which was only a couple blocks off of Main Street, to where red rocks started to climb into the horizon. Turning one direction and then another they cleaned and shut down several more vortexes. They then turned towards the town.

"What do you see?" Ruth inquired of Mara.

"I am seeing a sea of red needing clearing, even though with the constant influx of people from day to day it will become red again, at least it would bring the area relief for one day." Mara replied.

It is a sad situation for this place, which was once so sacred, to have become a tourist attraction where the sacred had become nothing more than a commercial commodity. They headed back to the car to meet with the men while contemplating the sad state of Sedona and its future.

Chapter 5 ~ Second Mesa

The small caravan of cars drove through the town of Sedona and out the other side. They stopped twice more to close the final vortexes that showed signs of red energy, passing through the Slid Rock tourist stop, then driving north to towards Flagstaff on the 89. Once through Flagstaff, they headed east on the Purple Heart Trail, the US 180, and out into the barrenness of the desert towards the reservation in the Northeast.

They approached an area known as Second Mesa and turned across the cattle guard, officially marking their entrance upon the southern edge of the Navajo Reservation. It was still a long drive to Chinle. After driving for a period of time they came upon the first mesas and Ruth had the cars pull over one more time.

"Everyone get out of the cars. This is another hands on test before we get to our destination," Ruth warned them. "I want you to tune in to what you feel resides on the Mesas."

Mara was aware of what could be found there. She could feel it as they came close to the area, but the other students were not so educated. They had to be tested as to how well they could tune in. It would be vital for all involved when things started to happen later. They needed to be able to work together as a team and Ruth and Mara knew this. Anything could happen. Anything.

Lewis started shaking and he said, "There are things, beings on the mesa. They are calling for help, for release, for rescue. Tormented things," he continued, "Some are identifiable as human souls. Others are from beyond the realm of this world."

Ron verified what Lewis had said and then added, "It seems that there were also some spirits of nature there as well."

Robert had gone into trance and had to be brought back because he was becoming emotionally affected. Ruth shook him and called his name.

"Robert! Come back into body NOW!" She demanded. He took a quick deep breath and coughed, coming back. In his eyes were tears of sorrow.

"Pull it together now. Do you think you will be ok for this?" she asked.

He nodded, "Yes, it was just the initial shock. I will be fine."

"All right then," said Ruth, "do any of you wish to help in lifting the Darkness, so that the Light can come in and rescue all those who are stuck on the mesas?"

At this time of the day the men were showing signs of fatigue and only Robert wanted to help at this point, having been so moved by what he had seen.

"I want to learn as much as I can. I can do this with you," he volunteered.

The other two men shook their heads and backed off.

"You can observe this time and this time only." she told them, "In the future you will be expected to participate. You volunteered for this trip to learn how to fight against what those in the Dark do to people. Watch and learn what can be done to correct the injustice that has been done to those trapped on the mesas." lectured Ruth.

"Robert, come with us and follow our lead. Don't go trancing out on us. Talk to me about what you see as we do this, if you need to," Ruth said sternly.

Robert nodded and moved in between Mara and Ruth.

"Actually, use your physical hands and arms to move the energy on the mesas. Know that your energy self can reach over the distance with no problem, "Ruth instructed, "Ground your feet and their energy firmly into the ground so that nothing can sway or move you. Reach out and tap into Source and ask for the strength of the Light to send its energy down through you. Ask the Warriors of Light and all others who need to be here to be here now and to rush in as we take our hands energetically and dig down under the mesas to the energy far below their foundations and pull that energy up." She paused as the group did this together and continued, "Nothing is too heavy for you because it is Source's hand that helps to lift your hands."

Looking over at Robert, she noticed that he was straining, turning red skinned and holding his breath.

"Breathe, Robert. Let the Light take the weight," Ruth commented, "You do not have to bear the weight by yourself. With this the Warriors of Light are rushing in where the Darkness has been lifted and they are surrounding the Darkness and taking all who are there back to Source, to the Light, to be healed, to be loved, to be removed from this earthly realm and be prepared to move on to what is next for them."

Suddenly, the group felt the massive energy that had run through them release and stop.

"It's over," commented Ruth. "You did good, Robert. Take a rest for a few minutes. Drink some water. Are you going to be able to drive?"

"Just give me a few minutes. I'll be good," he replied.

After about a 15 minute break the group got back in their cars and continued on. They drove past the Canyon de Chelly turn off. Ruth noted the energy there and that they would have to come back and spend time working at the Canyon in a few days.

They were coming to a part of the reservation where there were sparsely placed hogans and trailers out on the land. There were no fences confining the horses, sheep or the occasional cattle from crossing the lone road through the desert. One had to be careful of their physical presence.

The car radio quit receiving signals. The cell phones showed no signal bars. The land was quiet and it left each of the members of the party in their thoughts of what had happened so far this day.

Chapter 6 ~ Chinle

In the distance the town of Chinle appeared. There is one main street for this little town. Lining the sides of the street, amongst the small businesses, were more than a dozen little churches. Almost every one of them was white. There were several denominations of the Christian religion represented, Ruth observed.

She spoke to Mara about her observation, "It must be very hard to keep the native tradition when every Christian community that that ever was has built a church to claim the souls of your people. There must be at least a dozen or more. Where do your people practice their native beliefs?"

"We have chapter houses for local meetings, ritual and other native issues," Mara commented. "Real ritual work and ceremony is done with the healers, the medicine men, in hogans built and specifically used for such purposes. If they do not have a hogan, then they have another designated area for such matters."

The stores in the area were old and run down. Most of the area reflected a depressed economy and poverty.

Ruth turned to Mara and stated, "We should probably get more ice for the coolers."

Mara nodded in agreement and they pulled into a large parking lot full of pot holes that probably had not seen new asphalt in more than a decade.

"This is the local grocery store," remarked Mara, "It's not much, but it is cheaper than the trading post and the guys might want to pick up something while we are here."

As the SUV pulled up and parked, the men seemed glad to get out of the car and stretch their legs and they disappeared into the store. Ruth noticed that all the dumpsters in the parking lot had padlocks on them.

"How are we supposed to dump garbage while we are here?" She asked Mara.

Mara replied, "There is no access to any of the business trash dumpsters. Only the businesses can use them and they do not want us to use their containers. They have to pay to have their trash picked up," she sighed and continued, "We do not have trash pickup for the residents of the reservation. We have to burn our trash or recycle it or let it sit on the land. It is sad thing, but this is Federal land and they do not provide this service for us and the tribe cannot afford to provide it. We have no casinos like other tribes and we are much poorer than many of our Native neighbors."

With this said, they quickly went into the grocery store and picked up the ice and a few other items that they needed and got back in the cars.

Mara remarked, "We only have a few miles outside of the town to go before we get to my trailer." With that she started the car and the SUV pulled in line behind her as they slowly started down the road and out the far end of the town. The main street went out to the country and ended where it crossed another main road.

Mara pointed to the right and said, "That way is the college. It's probably the nicest and newest building around here. Sometimes, if you get there at the right time, you can sneak a bag or two of trash into their dumpsters just before they are scheduled for pickup. You have to be careful, though because you can be fined if caught. That direction will also take you all the way to Window Rock near the New Mexico border. We are going in the opposite direction for a couple more miles." With that said Mara turned to the left on the main road.

Ruth noticed that every now and then there was a dirt road leading either up towards the mountains on the right side of the road or a dirt road leading down towards the desert on the left side of the road. It was as if the paved road was the line drawn between the mountains and the desert.

One dirt road looked just like the next one, but Mara knew exactly where they were. She made a sudden turn on one of these dirt roads on the left and headed towards the desert side over the bumpy terrain and came to stop in front of an old run down trailer.

"We're here," she announced as she cut the engine.

*****

Chapter 7 ~ Arrival

As they pulled up in front of the trailer it was obvious that it was dilapidated and quite old, but it was all Mara's and she was proud to own it. On the Rez several families can live with multiple generations within one household. To have your own place, no matter how bad a shape it was in, was a good thing. A residence can always be reconstructed and improved. For Mara this place was not only hers, but it is a work in progress. Each year she came back and would either help other family members work on their homes or they would help with her needs. Community and family were important here.

Off to the left there was a vehicle graveyard, which included several cars, a motorcycle and an old broken down RV on blocks. Like all other refuse on the Rez, there was no way to dispose of one's vehicles, so when they broke down they sat on the land and became each resident's private junkyard. If you have a broken down vehicle in your private junkyard and someone else needs a part from your vehicle to fix theirs, they could either buy or barter for that part and remove it themselves.

Beyond that were shrubs, brush and short stunted trees as far as the eye could see. Straight back out into the desert, about a half a mile from the trailer, was a hogan. It had some animal pens next to it. Farther out to the left of the trailer and up on a hill was another hogan. Beyond that there were no other buildings as far as one could see.

Mara got out of the car and went to unlock the door to the trailer. She fumbled with her keys looking for the padlock key. The original door lock had long since been broken.

Ruth looked at the side of the trailer where the cars were parked.

"The window to the room on this side has been broken out and it looks like a board was removed," Ruth reported to Mara.

Mara sighed, "Could have been anyone looking for a place to party or a temporary place to stay. Either my aunt, down the road at the hogan, or perhaps my uncle who checks on the property now and then will know what happened." Mara found the key and got the padlock opened and went inside the trailer.

Ruth turned to the rest of the group who had just piled out of the SUV and spoke to them, "Before you unload anything, spread out. I want you to stand and observe each of the four directions East, South, West and North and see what is going on in the spiritual plane that overlaps the physical plane. Do so with all your spiritual senses and share your observations with the rest of the group, then report back to me."

The main road was about 200 yards away and barren except for an occasional car. A large group of people in full Native ceremonial regalia were walking to their destination farther up the main road and then they turned up a dirt road into the mountains. Mara came out of the trailer with several empty five gallon buckets with lids and placed them by the SUV.

"Where are those people going all dressed up in traditional clothes?" asked Ruth.

Mara squinted and looked up the road towards the mountains and smiled, "Looks like a party celebration that's happening tonight. Possibly a rite of passage, by the way they are dressed. It will last all night or even several days depending on what it's for and how long the food lasts. The guests are friends, family and whoever can bring a roasted goat."

Lewis was the first from the group to approach Ruth and Mara and speak about what he had found on the spiritual plane. "Up along the road near the edge of the property there are many dark spirits and they are talking and howling. They don't want us here and they are very angry."

Robert stepped forward and said, "Ron and I have spotted many other dark entities, but they are keeping their distance. They seem to be observing our presence. Curious about who we are. They don't seem to be part of the group along the main road."

Nodding in agreement to both observations, Ruth replied, "I believe the dark spirits who are on the road are part of the entities who work with the skin walkers. They would be angry about the fact that we took out a piece of their energy grid today out near Second Mesa. A good portion of their feeding ground of souls and other spirits have been taken from them and sent back to Source. They will never get their claws into those souls or spirits again. The others on the land don't work with the skin walkers. We will find out their intentions later."

The wind was picking up as the afternoon was getting late and it was beginning to whip at the hair and clothes of the small party of people. The temperature was beginning to drop.

"Let's get moving," said Ruth, "when we are done taking the equipment into the trailer a couple of you need to go fetch water with Mara."

"There is no running water or electricity here," chimed in Mara, "so we have to go to my aunt's hogan down the road. She has a private well and we have to pump the water for cleaning, cooking and drinking. There has been a drought on the Rez for several years now and the private wells are kept under lock and key due to water theft." She then added, "Place everything you brought with you in the kitchen and living room for now."

With that they each walked through the door of the trailer one by one. It looked as if someone had been there recently, Ruth noted, as she put down her equipment and belongings. The trailer was run down and broken. The floor no longer had a carpet. In the kitchen there was a giant spool, once used for commercial wire, that now served as a table and a couple of buckets turned upside down that served as seats. The cabinets were coming off the walls, but still had contents within them and the pantry closet was missing its door. The living room had old sheets that were worn thrown over the two couches that sat in the corner forming an L shaped seating area. Someone had left sleeping blankets and pillows strewn over the couches as if they had slept there and expected to return.. The ceiling was coming down in places and some sections were missing the entire insulated panels.

Ruth walked down the hall and looked into the first bedroom. The window was broken out and there was glass lying shattered on the floor amongst bits of trash. This had been the entry point for whoever had broken in to make use of the place as a temporary shelter. The room was empty of furniture and had a closet whose sliding doors were long gone. The closet had a few belongings in it that looked rifled through and tossed aside.

Further down the hall was a bathroom. Ruth could only open the door a few inches. It was as if things had been thrown in there and were piled to the ceiling and had avalanched down to the bottom of the door. Miscellaneous clothing, towels, bedding and just plain junk mixed in.

Ruth quietly shut the door and sighed as she headed to the rear bedroom. The second bedroom proved to be more promising. This bedroom seemed to be untouched, though sparsely furnished. Whoever had been in the house respected this one room. Ruth put her personal things in this room. Mara followed her in with her own personal belongings.

"This is my bedroom," she said. "The bathroom is over there." She pointed to the back of the room with its non-working sinks, partial mirror and a makeshift closet on one side. There was an entrance to the toilet on the other side of the sink.

Ruth walked over to the bathroom and looked in. It was small, dark, dirty and minus its door. The toilet literally looked as if someone had taken a sledgehammer to it. Its interior was shattered in on itself. There was a small window that directly faced the toilet. A single wooden two by four piece of board, that was too small to cover the entire window, had been nailed across the opening allowing in a small stream of light and the chill of the cold wind. The tub still had the remnants of a shower curtain as if to try and hide the fact that more junk was piled in the tub for storage. The trailer was truly primitive. Ruth made a mental note that after the area had been swept out a bucket and toilet paper would need to be placed in here for the nighttime. This would be the ladies bathroom, even if she was the only one using it.

Mara said, "We will have to break out the oil lamps for light. I'll go to my aunts' hogan up the road for water and take a couple of the guys to help haul the water. We'll need to catch her at home so we can get the key to the well. She has to keep the well locked because water is scarce on the reservation and there are only a few wells. People will steal water if they hear that your well is not locked up. We're lucky she's just down the dirt road."

She then continued to explain, "In the living room there is an old metal wood stove we can fire up in the morning to warm up the trailer. There's a two-burner propane stove in the kitchen that we can use for cooking. It sits on the electric stove, which is unusable and is only used for storage."

Ruth said, "I'll keep one of the guys to help clean up the trailer physically, while you run and fetch water with the other two. When you come back we will need to clean and clear the energy both inside and outside the trailer and the land. We need to put up an energy barricade, so that we are not attacked during the night."

"You actually think we will be attacked?" Mara asked. "I have never been attacked here before."

"You have never infringed on the skin walkers territory before," replied Ruth, "they have already sent the dark ones to protest up by the main road. You don't think they intend on staying there, do you?"

Mara had not thought about the implications of what they were doing here or that there would actually be retaliation allowed. That had not been a part of the plans she had, but now she was being informed that it was very much a reality.

Ruth noticed her discomfort. "Don't worry. We will do what we can to prepare for it. They will come. You can be sure of it. We are not alone in this battle." She gave a reassuring smile to Mara. "Just trust Source. It will be ok."

Chapter 8 ~ Visitations

Mara took Lewis and Robert with her to fetch water. Ruth and Ron found brooms and started sweeping up the garbage and placing it in a trash bags that they had brought with them. The removal of the trash brought some order to the area, though in retrospect to the condition of the place it would take a lot more to bring it to a true respectability. Back home it would have been condemned and torn down, but this was not back home. This was the Rez and it was an acceptable piece of housing here. Some people lived in even worse conditions. Ruth knew this from the stories Mara had told her, but this was new to the guys.

Ron didn't say anything about the condition of the trailer, but chose to hold his tongue and continued to clean. None of them had said a word about it. It was still a shock to him and the other students that people lived like this. Mara and Ruth just moved their things in and went about their business as if this was entirely acceptable. They were here on a spiritual mission, not to judge how people lived, so Ron kept his head down and cleaned as best he could.

Ruth went to clean in the rear bedroom and Ron began sweeping the broken glass in the first bedroom. As Ruth was sweeping in the back room she suddenly heard Ron let out a loud cry of fear. She dropped the broom and went to his aid.

He had quickly backed out into the hallway and cried for Ruth, "Hurry, please! There's an Indian Spirit in the bedroom." Ron pointed towards the door and said, "He's in there. He looks like a warrior."

Ruth went past Ron and into the bedroom to address the spirit. This spirit was greatly saddened and distraught looking.

"Why are you here?" Ruth asked.

He claimed, "I am a guardian of the land. Are you here to help us and the spirits of the land?" he inquired. His energy was an uneven and tired and he could not keep a solid manifestation. He had fought to get past the dark ones to get here and they had not let him pass unscathed.

Ruth assured him, "We have been sent by the Highest Spirit to clear the land and free the people from the oppression that they have been placed under by the skin walkers and the dark spirits." She also encouraged him, "Have no fear."

With that she opened to the energy of the Source that came down through her and the white light filled the room. The Indian spirit heard the words of Source. "Come back to the Highest Spirit, your Source, your Mother and your Father. It is time for you to return to us. You are loved and we have heard your request for another guardian to come. Perhaps when you are healed you may be sent back during the battle to help clear the land."

The Indian spirit's face relaxed as he looked into the Light and heard the words that came inviting him home and promising help. He seemed lifted of the burdens he had been carrying for many generations. Before he walked into the Light he turned to Ruth, "Tell Mara her brother will be the next guardian when his physical body exhausts itself. He will have the duties to watch over the people and the land," Then he also gave a warning, "Do not go outside the trailer at night until break of dawn each day that you are here." With that said he passed on through the Light and was gone.

Ron stood there for a moment absorbing what he had seen and heard. Ruth turned to him and told him, "Go back to work. We have a lot to do yet."

He stood in the hall for a moment. Ruth transitioned from physical to spiritual, then back to the physical as if nothing out of the ordinary had transpired. As if it was just the natural order of things. He looked down the hall where she had returned and had now gone back to cleaning. He drew a deep breath, took steps toward the room where the spirit had been and carefully looked into the room to make sure nothing else was in there. Only then did he walk back into the room, pick up the broom and cautiously finished sweeping.

Ruth called from the other room, "Move your belongings and claim your area for this evening as to where you will be sleeping."

"It definitely won't be in this room." He muttered under his breath.

They finished the rooms and stacked the garbage bags they had filled in a corner of the kitchen. Ron had claimed one of the couches in the living room as his sleeping area and set up his bedding. The bedding that had been there earlier was folded and placed in the front bedroom closet.

Ruth was going through some of the equipment that had been placed in the dining area and was chattering to Ron at the same time. "When the guys get back here the three of you will clear the energy of the interior of the trailer, while Mara and I clear the land and set up barrier so that the dark spirits will be kept out and we will be able to sleep safely tonight. I believe that Robert had requested a purification process with Mara for this evening. If you and Lewis wish to participate you will have to speak to her. I believe it involves talking to the spirits of the land and making a type of drink for purification. She will give you the details. I'm sure you'll find it .interesting. Mara and I will sleep in her bedroom in the back. There is a bathroom down the hall, but it is blocked off for storage.. I did not see an outhouse on the property so you'll have to ask her about proper toilet procedures."

About then, Mara and the guys returned with buckets of water. They brought the water into the kitchen and set them to the side.

Mara announced, "You can drink this water. It comes from a natural well. It is also for washing and cooking. I have made the offer to Robert and I extend that offer to the rest of you for a purification ceremony. I have been through this many times myself growing up and know exactly what it can do. Ruth and I will not participate as there needs to be supervision for those who go through the purification process. It can open your third eye can bring you visions or dreams and someone needs to be here to take care of you."

Ruth interrupted, "But first, the trailer needs to be cleared inside and out. Get your ammonia and spray bottles and sage, if you have it, also blessing tools and any sound tools you wish to use. Start in the back room and work towards the door until you're outside with the ammonia first. 'While the ammonia is dissipating you can go outside the trailer and spray underneath the trailer."

Ron said, "I'm not doing this alone because we had spirit visit while you were out fetching water." With that he drafted Lewis to work with him, "And I'm not going into that front bedroom alone again," He stated.

Ruth smiled and took Mara outside while the guys inquired of Ron what had happened.

"Mara, we had a visitor," she started to explain, "A spirit guardian of the land and your people. He had a message about your brother before he passed into the light. Upon your brother's death he has been granted the honor of continuing to work with the people as the new spirit guardian of this area."

Mara accepted the information with a broad smile. "He has always wondered what people would do when he was no longer here to take care of them. It will be reassuring for him to know this information when we see him tomorrow."

Ruth continued on, "There was more to the message. We are not to be outside the trailer at night. It was a warning that spirit gave before he passed into the Light. Let us set up barriers and ask for protection for ourselves and all those who are within the trailer at night. Now, let's start clearing the land around the trailer."

Each of them took two directions started for the lifting of the darkness off the property and extended their work out to the aunt's trailer asking that any dark energy or entities on the land be taken back to Source.

The guys came out of the trailer after having sprayed the interior with the ammonia and started spraying under the trailer. Beneath the trailer were huddled several smaller entities scared of what was going on. Lewis, Ron and Robert were running from side to side trying to get the entities cornered in one spot.Tthey yelled back and forth to each other when they would see the entities shift.

Ruth had finished with her area of the land came over. "What are you doing?" She asked them.

Lewis answered, "There are entities under the trailer and we can't get to them. They keep running from end to end."

"So you guys decided to be cowboys and herd them together?" Ruth sighed, then said, "Back away from the trailer, please." She sat down on the ground facing the underside of the trailer and called out to the entities. "As with every child of the Creator you have the right to go home to the Mother and Father. I invite you to do so now."

With that said, the Light came down upon her and extended itself down under the trailer for the entities who disappeared into the Light.

She turned to the guys and said, "These entities were not going to hurt anyone. Don't always assume that just because an entity is dark that it came to cause harm to you. They took refuge here because they are afraid of those who will come. The ones we need to be careful of. The ones even other dark entities fear. It was easier to offer them the highest refuge. They left willingly and are no longer here. They went home to Source." She finished instructing them.

Mara had finished up clearing her directions of the land and came over to join the group.

Ruth said, "Gentleman, you can go inside to check clearing of the energy. If everything is okay, you need to bless the area, but if there are parts of the rooms that need more attention use the sound tools and change the vibration until the light is within the rooms. When you're done with clearing and blessing, you may sage the rooms and put up any signs of protection that you believe in and get your things stowed away."

Ruth and Mara remained outside while this was being done.
