A Very Day
Jenny was walking down the street humming a song in her usual cheery way when she saw a boy sitting in the gutter by the side of the road crying. I will try and cheer him up she thought. Hello young man how you today she asked with a spark in her voice . The boy stopped sobbing and pulled one eye away from his hands to look at her, he let out another sob and replied terrible. THIS IS A VERY BAD DAY , the worst day of all he said. Now , now it cant be that bad she asked , tell me what happened.
Well I rode my bike down that hill and I forgot the brakes didn’t work, and I crashed. I will take you home to your mum said Jenny. No I can't said Sam, I will get in trouble. Why will you get in trouble? asked Jenny. Well I sort of , you know , ummm I skipped school today because I wanted to play with my chemistry set. Said Sam. Well just tell your mum you fell off your bike while going to school said Jenny. I sure she wont mind.
I can't tell mum? said Sam. Why not asked Jenny. Well said Sam, mums in hospital with a broken leg. Oh . terrible said Jenny , well what about your dad , can I call your dad maybe ? Well no said Sam , he's in hospital too. Oh No! said Jenny what happened to your dad? Well he is a sign writer and he was putting a new sign up at the station and fell off his ladder and has a twisted neck said Sam. What back luck said Jenny. Do you have a big brother I can call? asked Jenny pulling out her mobile phone.
Well would you believe it said Sam , my big bother had a crash in his truck and a Paint can fell through his window and broke his nose. Oh dear said Jenny , as she tried to think of a happy spin to put on all of this. I know said Jenny beaming , lets go back to your home and call your school principle and he will find someone to look after you and everything will get better. No, can't do that either said Sam. Why not said Jenny slowly starting to loose her cool. My school principlal got run over by a bike and is in hospital with 2 broken legs. Unbelievable ! said Jenny. Well why can't we go to your home? asked Jenny. That what I been trying to tell you said Sam , my house burnt down. How long ago? asked Jenny. Um mm, right now replied Sam.
The penny dropped, the fog lifted and it all became clear to Jenny. OH , I’ve got it cried Jenny with some excitement , I have finally worked out what is going on.
Well said Jenny. You where at home wagging school playing with your chemistry. Your chemistry set caught on fire and set the house on fire. You jumped on your bike to ride to the fire station and rode down the hill forgetting your brakes don’t work. The fire truck that was coming to your house swerved to miss you on your bike , hit the ladder your dad was on , your dad dropped his paint can which fell through the window of the fire truck hitting your brother who was driving the fire truck. The ladder fell on your mum who was riding your new bike home because the brakes on your old bike don’t work. Your mum fell off the bike and the bike hit your principal and your house burnt down because the fire truck had an accident. Phew said Jenny. Yep said Sam, that’s it. Jenny plopped down next to Sam, Yep she said, THIS IS A VERY BAD DAY, the worst day of all she agreed.
