The Highway
Imagine a highway, with millions of lanes. For each lane, there is a YOU. Sometimes the lanes get so close, something seeps through. You are walking down a street and out of the corner of your eye you see something, you turn to look, but there is nothing there.
As you are walking along store fronts, you see something out of the corner of your eye. Reflected in the glass you catch a glimpse of yourself. But it’s not exactly you. The angle is impossible for it to be you. It is one of the other yous. It whispers something or so you think. But what? What would you say to yourself? Déjà Vue!
What happens when the highway ends? There are highways in both directions. When you finish your journey in the direction you are travelling, you start another journey in the opposite direction.
Do people change lanes without signaling? Are there crashes and potholes and construction on this highway? Probably. Maybe we’ll never know. Maybe someone knows already and the rest of us class them as: different, not ‘normal’, and put them in institutions. Maybe they are afraid to tell anyone, even those closest to them. On this highway, there are on-ramps and off-ramps. Where do they come from, where do they go? Somebody knows the answer. Maybe you know. Maybe you don’t, or should not know.
Time. Time is a factor too, as with all highways everything is travelling at different speeds, different times. There’s a fast lane, a slow lane and a middle lane. Everything is jockeying for position. Is there road rage? Perhaps you were telling yourself to slow down, or go faster, or watch for yourself coming up behind you. You may have driven this highway a million times before, know where you are going, or maybe you are lost. Is there a road map? Or a GPS? Signs would be good. But then, maybe you don’t heed signs, or follow maps. Maybe you make your own way, your own map.
With all this, how would you ever know? You do know. You see the signs. They are not written, they are not broadcast, you just know. But you may not even realize you know. You just take the off-ramp. Then the highway turns into a junction. You see out of the corner of your eye ….something. That something is what you’ve been waiting for the whole journey. The something that was missing and you didn’t know it until now. The other part that is you, that’s been travelling the same highway, but separate, until now.
Soul Mate. The Life of your Love. You are complete. You enter the on-ramp and continue the rest of your journey. As one.
