Chapter One

I could never hurt a kid.

I have kids, two in fact, and I have never hurt them. Never laid a hand on a one of them.

But kids are a resource that can be exploited. Bruno Hauptmann knew it. And blew it.

Rich kids are always so beautiful. Regular kids can be too, but the rich kids just seem to be holistically blessed. Simple genetic principle involved. The rich guys get the pretty girls. Those traits, the trait of good looks don't seem to "skip generations" like other traits. They manifest in the very next generation.

Maybe the rich are just "more better". Maybe they deserve all their blessings. Wasn't it the Calvinists who that so much, as to found their entire belief system upon it. God's chosen.

The "unchosen" have to fight the good fight to survive; to provide for the future of their young.

I am on of those whose fate seems not to have been ordained and guaranteed. My fate has been to struggle every damned day to make all things happen, that are vital for my family.
