Shannon and Ally went on a road trip from Ottawa to Lake Ontario. They stopped in to visit the Air Park and the Air Force Museum in Trenton.

“I like airplanes!” said Shannon.

Shannon and Ally sat inside an airplane and tried to fly it. They could not get off the ground!

“But I want to fly!” said Ally.

“Oh well,” said Daddy. “Maybe when you grow up you can fly an airplane. You can be a pilot.”

That made Shannon and Ally very happy. They would like to fly up in the sky, through the clouds and over top of all the houses. They might even fly over their own house in Ottawa!

“That would be fun,” said Shannon.

Mommy and Daddy said they would like to fly an airplane too. But they did not know where to go.

“Maybe we could fly all the way to Renfrew,” said Mommy.

“Oh no,” said Daddy. “We could fly further than that. We could fly all the way to Trenton!”

But right now, Shannon and Ally were having fun just pretending to be pilots. They liked the big airplanes and they liked the small airplanes. Ally liked the helicopter best.

“If I had a helicopter I could fly straight up and down!” she laughed. “That would be the most fun of all!”

Ally did a little dance in front of the big helicopter. She was glad the propellers were not going around! That might hurt!

Shannon said she might like to join the Air Force. She already knew how to salute! She gave her very best salute and it looked like this.

Mommy and Daddy said they would like to fly in an old airplane like the Golden Hawk. But it was not taking anybody for rides, so they just sat on the bench in front of it. Shannon and Ally jumped on the bench and climbed up and down. That was just as much fun as an airplane ride!

Shannon and Ally had fun at the Air Park and then they went to Presqu’ile Park beside Lake Ontario. That was more fun.

They walked along the boardwalk that went through the marsh. It was a long and winding boardwalk and there were tall cattails everywhere. Along the boardwalk were pretty flowers. Once they even saw a duck fly and a frog jump.

Shannon and Ally played games on the boardwalk. Shannon said she was so hungry for cupcakes that she could hardly wait. Ally said her stomach wanted cupcakes too!

So they found a nice picnic table by the water and had cupcakes. It was Shannon’s birthday so she lit all the candles. She was only seven but she wanted to light more candles so she could blow them all out. Ally was five so she lit five candles and blew them out too.

Then they went to the lighthouse and looked way up to the top. It was a very, very tall lighthouse. Once there was a lighthouse keeper who stayed at the top of the lighthouse and kept the light on all the time so the boats would not crash against the rocks.

Nobody lived in the lighthouse any more, but it was still pretty to look at.

Shannon and Ally went to the lighthouse museum and looked at all the old things they kept there from a long time ago. It was fun to see the old boats.

“I would like to go to the top of the lighthouse,” said Shannon.

“I would like to be a lighthouse keeper,” said Ally. “I would live up there all the time.”

Shannon said, “No, you wouldn’t, Ally. Because how would you get your lunch? You would have to have your cupcakes delivered every day!”

Ally laughed.

She said, “No, I would put a fishing pole out the window and go fishing in the lake!”

And Shannon laughed too.

Shannon and Ally were glad to have such a nice visit. Ally even got to blow bubbles on her new dolphin bubble maker. It made music when she blew on it and the bubbles all came out. That made her laugh.

Bubble were flying everywhere! There were bubbles in the air and bubbles in her hair! There were bubbles on her shirt and bubbles in the dirt! There were bubbles on her clothes. There were bubbles up her nose!

There were lots and lots of bubbles!

Shannon and Ally went for a walk through the forest. There were cedar trees everywhere. Shannon and Ally tried to sit on the trees just like on horses. The cedars were so smooth you could even pet them. But don’t fall off!

Shannon said, “My horse is bigger than your horse!”

Ally said, “My horse goes faster than your horse!”

And Shannon and Ally rode their cedar horses all through the magical forest. When they got tired they lay down in the woods and had more cupcakes.

“I like chocolate!” said Shannon.

“I like vanilla,” said Ally.

So they ate all the cupcakes and felt very full. Then they went to sleep. When they woke up they were back home in Ottawa!

“Well, I had a very nice trip to Lake Ontario,” said Shannon.

“Me too!” said Ally.

And Shannon and Ally laughed and laughed. That was the end of a very nice adventure.
