Chapter 1

“Man that was one fun vacation huh Gator?” Wolf a young eighteen year old man asked his friend. “Yea but the city, it looks different,” Gator replied. “I see what you mean. It kind of looks like a tornado hit this place. I don’t even think anyone is here, weird,” Wolf said. “Well it’s good to be back home,” Gator said as he drove up to the apartment building parking lot. “I hope Roofuse is alright,” Wolf said exiting out of the car. “He should be fine as long as you left out food for him,” Gator said following his friend into the apartment building. “Oh yea that reminds me, are you going to give Sara a call?” Wolf asked. “No, remember when you went out to the pool?” Gator asked. “Yea,” Wolf replied. “Well I called her and we got into a little fight, then we just broke up,” Gator said. “Oh I’m sorry to hear that,” Wolf said. “It’s no big deal, c’mon lets go inside,” Gator said as he walked into the apartment.

“I’m going to turn on the TV,” Wolf said. “Alright do whatever, I’m going to check the phone messages,” Gator said while walking towards the kitchen phone. As Wolf turned on the TV, an annoying warning siren played. The kind that is played for storm warning, only this warning to be much more unbelievable then a tornado warning for a place that will never get hit by a tornado. The screen flashed “UNDEAD WARNING”. “What? Wolf asked himself as he rubbed his eyes to make sure if what he was reading was true. This can’t be true.”

Wolf quickly began switching through channels in order to find a news station. “Ah ha! Wolf shouted as he found a news channel. Now let’s see what’s with this undead thing.” “This just in, the dead are now becoming reanimated and are now feasting on the living. I’m being told to say lock your doors, bored up your windows and don’t have contact with anyone on the outside until further notice,” The news caster said nervously before the screen when completely blank. “What reanimated corpses eating the living? What a load of crap,” Wolf said to himself as he turned the TV off, and sat back down onto the couch. “What’s a load of crap?” Gator asked as he walked out of his room. “Oh I just heard on the news that there are apparently dead people walking around eating the living,” Wolf explained.

“Hm well that does sound like a load of crap. But hey before I forget I checked the messages and we got a really strange one from Mario,” Gator said. “What is he saying?” Wolf asked. “Just listen to this,” Gator said as he passed Wolf the phone. “Wolf, Gator please if you get this message come down to The Pizza Shop, I need your help before they come back. Oh no it’s too late. No stay away from me! NNNNNNOOOOOOOO!” Mario shouted in the message.

That’s all Wolf and Gator heard before the message went dead. Mario had been a friend to both Wolf and Gator for years. Wolf and Gator knew that Mario would rarely joke around, and when Wolf heard Mario screaming he knew that he had to help immediately. “Gator we got to go down to the Pizza Place,” Wolf said as he hung up the phone. “What’s going, on I heard some screaming on the phone,” Gator asked. “Mario is in trouble,” Wolf said as he slipped into his boots. “Then let’s not waste anytime then.” Gator said as he began to walk out the door.

Chapter 2

“Hey Gator check out those guys. I think those are the animated corpses that the news reporter was warning us about earlier,” Wolf said sarcastically as he pointed at a group of pale people with a strange red liquid dripping from their lips. “I don’t know but I think we should keep going, we’ve got a long way to go and we don’t have time to waste,” Gator said. It felt like hours since Wolf and Gator started their search and rescue mission. “I still think we should have taken your car,” Wolf said with disappointment. “I told you my car is almost out of gas and-“Gator was interrupted by a slow tapping on his shoulder. Gator spun around to see who was tapping on his shoulder.

“Hey it’s one of those pale people we saw before,” Wolf said. “No duh captain obvious,” Gator said. The person that started to tap on Gator’s shoulder was a young woman about no older then twenty-five. She was tall and slim with short brown hair. On the side of her arm she had a huge bite mark along with a vacant stare. A stare so vacant in fact that it felt as though she was staring into your soul. “Excuse me ma’am are you alright?” Gator asked. The only reply that Gator received was a slow and low groan. “What happened to you?” Wolf asked. Again the woman uttered out the same slow and low groans. Gator turned around and said to Wolf, “Dude I think we should get going, Mario needs us.” Once Gator started walking the unresponsive woman began to grab Gator’s arm in an attempt to bite him. But with all of the training that he received from the police academy finally paid off.

Gator spun around and threw the cannibalistic woman into Wolf who raised his left foot and kicked her as hard as he could in the middle of her stomach. With a sickening bone cracking sound the woman fell onto the ground in two separate halves. “Oh crap! Oh crap! Wolf shouted in shock, I couldn’t have kicked her that hard! There’s no way!” “Wow Wolf, just wow,” Gator said as he looked at the lifeless body halves.

“Gator I know this is going to sound crazy but I don’t think she’s dead,” Wolf said. “What do you mean? Of course she’s dead, you kicked her in half,” Gator said. “No I mean really I think I saw her arm twitch,” Wolf said nervously. “We got to get going, the Pizza Shop is right down the street Wolf,” Gator said. As the two friends continued to walk towards The Pizza Shop they both heard a familiar groan. “Did you hear that?” Wolf asked nervously. “I did,” Gator said softly. “Do you think we should check just to make sure?” Wolf asked. “On three, Gator said as he began to count down, one, two, and three!” As soon as Gator said three both him and Wolf spun around and saw the top half of the cannibalistic woman coming back for a second to get a bite out of Wolf and Gator.

“Gator what is this?!” Wolf asked as he shook with fright. “This my friend is HELL!” Gator said. We need to get to the pizza shop now! It might be safer at the Pizza shop,” Wolf hollered. Wolf and Gator ran away just before the half woman bit them both in the ankle.

“Let’s…take…a…quick…brake,” Wolf said as he gasped for breath. “Alright but we haven’t even been running that long, besides the Pizza Shop is right across the street,” Gator said. As Wolf finished catching his breath, he began to look around to see if there were any more people that were acting like the woman they met just moments before. “Okay it looks like the cost is clear,” Wolf said as he and Gator began to cross the street to the Pizza Shop.

“We finally made it!” Gator exclaimed as he opened the doors. But as the two walked in they saw that the entire shop was completely destroyed. The lights were out, all of the windows were all smashed in, and the only thing that was still intact was the ovens. Only they appeared to have blood splattered on the along with the walls. “Dude what the hell happened in here?” Wolf asked as he looked around the destroyed shop. “Beets me,” Gator said as he began to search under the broken glass covered counter for their friend. “Were could Mario be?” Wolf thought as he walked deeper into the dark and eerie kitchen. “Wolf you be careful in there,” Gator said as he watched as Wolf slowly diapered into the darkness of the kitchen. “Don’t worry about me man. What are the odds of running into another one of those people that were like that crazy lady?” Wolf responded before he was completely engulfed in the darkness.

Twenty minutes have passed since Wolf journeyed into the dark kitchen. As time passed Gator began to grow worried. Gator then cupped his hands over his mouth and hollered, “Hey Wolf are you okay in there?!” There was no response. The only thing that Gator heard was the muffled sound of feet shuffling on concrete. Gator slowly glanced over and peered into one of the broken windows and saw a small group of slowly walking, people who appeared to be the same as the cannibalistic woman. The sour smell of death and rotting flesh filled the air. As Gator grabbed his nose tightly to avoid the smell of the rotting flesh, he dove down to avoid being seen by the foul smelling people.

****

“Why does it have to be so dark in here?” Wolf asked himself as he made his way through the dark kitchen. “Wait what’s this? Wolf said as he felt around the wall, A light switch yes!” Wolf quick switched on the lights to see a horrible sight. Some of the employees, including Mario, were eating an innocent by stander. Wolf couldn’t believe the horrible sight as the smell of rotting, decaying flesh filled the room. Wolf tried to make a run for it but he couldn’t move because of fear. It felt as though someone had filled his shoes with quick drying cement. “Uh, Wolf stated to say as the cannibals stared at him with hunger in their eyes, well it looks like I have the wrong room.” Wolf very calmly turned around towards the front of the store.

****

“Now what’s going on?” Gator said as he turned around the see what the loud stomping noise was. It was none other than Wolf running for his life as the former employees of the Pizza Shop. “Run Gator! Run!” Wolf screamed, “I’ll meet you outside,” Gator said. But as Gator opened the door more people who acted like Mario and the other employees flooded into the restaurant. Hungry and moaning for brains the group of people surrounded Wolf and Gator into a corner. “This looks like the end! Just know that I’ve always valued our friendship Gator” Wolf said. “Same here Wolf,” Gator said as he closed his eyes waiting for the cannibals to do whatever they would do.

Chapter 3

Just as it seemed all hope was lost, one of the cannibal’s heads blew off its shoulders. The headless body dropped to the floor with a quiet thud, dead. “What was that?” Wolf asked. Before Gator could answer a range voice coming from behind the hungry mob. As more heads began to mysteriously blow up blood started to splatter over Wolf, Gator, and the walls. Suddenly a strange voice came from behind the hungry mob that said “Aaaawwww yea! You zombies are going down!”

“It’s Matt!” Gator said as the zombies began to fall to the floor. “Matt? Who is Matt?” Wolf asked as the last zombie fell to the ground. A large man with a rugged beard stood right in front of Wolf and said in a deep voice, “I’m Matt.” “It’s good to see you again Matt,” Gator said as he shook Matt’s giant hand. “It’s good to see you too my friend,” Matt responded. “So Matt who exactly are you and what were those things you saved us from?” Wolf asked. “Well I’m one of Gator’s friends from the police academy, and those things that I saved you from are called zombies. They are the living dead who like to dine on human flesh, and sometimes if they can they love to dine on human brains. The only way to kill them is to destroy their brain with anything you have. But be warned if you get bitten by a zombie then its game over. The virus will spread quickly though out your body,” Matt explained “Hm, well that makes sense,” Wolf said.

“How much time would we have until we go all zombie, if we get bitten? And how long has this been going on?” Gator asked. “At least twenty four hours or less then you’ll turn into a zombie, and the apocalypse has been going on for about two weeks now. Where were you two, under a rock?” Matt asked. “No we were on vacation. But what exactly are we supposed to do? Do we just hang out around here and try to survive or is there any place that’s truly safe?” Wolf asked. “Well at the edge of the city there are cruse boats that will take the survivors to an island that is completely zombie free. The boats have food, water, and medical help for anyone that needs it,” Matt explained. “The edge of the city? But that’s about a five day walk, plus all of the zombies so it could take even longer,” Gator exclaimed.

“Oh no, we got to get back to the apartment!” Wolf yelled. “Why did you forget something?” Matt asked. “I left the door unlocked, so those zombie things could have gotten inside,” Wolf replied as he headed outside. “Hey Matt what would you say the possibilities of a zombie breaking into an apartment room would be?” Gator asked as he and Matt followed Wolf outside. “Well I would say pretty high. You’d be surprised of what zombies would do to get food,” Matt replied. “I’ve got to get to the apartment now, I have to know if Roofuse is okay,” Wolf said as he started to run in the direction of the apartment buildings. “Who’s Roofuse?” Matt asked as he and Gator attempted to catch up with Wolf. “Roofuse is Wolf’s dog. He practically loves that dog more than life itself. I swear he doesn’t do anything but go to work, then sit around and play with Roofuse,” Gator explained. “So instead of having a social life, Wolf just plays with his dog?” Matt asked as he laughed under his breath. “Yea pretty much, isn’t that right Wolf?” Gator asked.

But Wolf was too concerned for the wellbeing of Roofuse that he didn’t even hear what his friend had just said. “Please be okay, please be okay,” Wolf repeated to himself as he ran into the apartment building. Wolf swung the door open, just barely missing Matt and Gator, of the apartment and rushed into the room. The entire apartment seemed to be untouched. ‘It’s quiet, Gator said as he walked in and looked around, too quiet.” “Roofuse here boy!” Wolf cried out in desperation. The entire room was silent until a small yelping in the back bed room was heard. “Oh no Roofuse! Wolf shouted as he rushed into the room. Matt get in here we have a problem!” Wolf said. Matt and Gator rushed into the room to see what was going on. “What’s wrong, oh never mind,” Matt said as he entered the room and noticed Wolf furiously wrestling an angry zombie to the ground, and a small dog lying in a puddle of its own blood with a huge bite out of its side.

‘I can’t hold this zombie for much longer, Matt take the shot!” Wolf demanded. “I’m trying to aim my gun just right so I don’t hit you,” Matt said. “Right sorry,” Wolf replied as he moved out of the direction of the gun. With a single shot from the gun the once angry and savage zombie laid still and lifeless. “Roofuse please no!”Wolf said as he rushed over to the motionless dog, and dropped to his knees. As tears began to form in Wolf’s eyes Gator walked over and put his hang on Wolf’s shoulder. “I’m sorry Wolf, truly I am,” Gator said. “Thanks man,” Wolf said as he stood up and dried his face. “You goanna be okay?” Matt asked as he began to reload his gun. With a very serious look on his face Wolf turned to Matt and said, “Yea I’ll be fine.” “Good cause were going to need to shoot Roofuse,” Matt said as he cocked the gun and pointed it at the dead dog.

Chapter 4

“What!?” Wolf shouted with a mixture of confusion and anger in his voice. “Yea, Roofuse was bitten by a zombie, so naturally he’ll end up coming back to life and attack us,” Matt said. “But wait I thought you said that someone would have at least twenty four hours before they go all zombie,” Gator said. “I did but animals only have a few minutes before they go all zombie. Know Wolf I know he’s your dog, and he meant a lot to you, so if you want I’ll let you take the shot,” Matt said as he handed the shot gun to Wolf. “Are you insane?! Nobody is going to shoot my dog! He’s already dead so there’s no way he’ll come back!” Wolf said angrily as he swatted the gun away. “Oh he won’t come back huh? Then why don’t you look behind you?” Gator said.

As Wolf turned around he saw Roofuse standing up, snarling and growling at him. “Roofuse I can’t believe it, this is impossible!” Wolf cried out happily. “It’s entirely impossible, Matt said as he grabbed some rope from the corner of the room and tossed it to Gator, hear tie him up and try not to get bitten okay.” “Alright, Roofuse come here buddy,” Gator said as he prepared to tie up the undead dog. “Okay Matt I’ll take the shot,” Wolf said sadly.

“Hey guys I could use a hand here,” Gator said as he griped the snapping dog. “Alright, I’ll help Gator and then you can take the shot at Roofuse, got it Wolf?” Matt said as he rushed over to assists Gator. Once Matt and Gator apprehended the raging dog Wolf prepared to take the shot. “Okay Wolf take the shot!” Gator shouted. But as Wolf prepared to take the shot flash backs of all the times he and Roofuse spent time together flooded back into his mind. He remembered everything from the day that he first day he got Roofuse, to the last time he saw him alive.

“Wolf take the shot!” Matt hollered. “Huh? Oh sorry I zoned out for a second there,” Wolf said. “Wolf I swear if you don’t take the shot then I will,” Matt said as he pulled out a pistol and aimed it at the snarling dog’s head, and I don’t think you want me to shoot your dog.” “Matt, that’s not my dog,” Wolf said as he pulled the trigger. Roofuse fell to the floor with a thud. Wolf looked down at the blood soaked carpet with a sick and disgraceful look on his face. “I can’t believe I shot him, my best friend. His eyes said why” Wolf said sadly. “Ah the look of betrayal you can never remove that look no matter what you do,” Matt said. Gator shot him a dirty look and said, “Way too soon man. Don’t worry Wolf, you did what you had to do. It was either you kill Roofuse, or he kills us.” “Thanks bro, but we should get going to those Barricades that Matt was talking about before. Hey where’s Matt?” Wolf asked as he looked around the room. “He was here a second ago. Hey look a note,” Gator said as he pointed to a wall with a hunting knife sticking out of a piece of paper.

Gator tore the note down and began to read it aloud.

Dear friends,

I hate to say this but I cannot be of assistance to you with reaching the curse boats as of this moment, something important came up. But I’m not leaving you empty handed. Wolf you can use that shot gun I handed to you, and on the couch I left a box of ammo use it well. And as for Gator, also on the couch is a fully loaded sniper rifle. Now you two need to know this, you can’t survive this apocalypse alone, you need to build a team. Good luck and I’ll see you guys later.

-Matt

“I can’t believe it he ditched us!” Wolf said angrily. “Well at least he didn’t leave us empty handed,” Gator said. “BBBRRAINS!!!” said a zombie attempting to climb in through the open window. “That’s it, I’m sick of these of these zombies!” Wolf said as he pulled the trigger and blew the zombie’s head clean off its shoulders. Wolf and Gator watched as the decapitated zombie fell to the ground with a sickening thud. “Well I see your recovering quite nicely,” Gator said sarcastically. “Come on Gator grab your rifle, we need to start moving,” Wolf said as he yanked the knife out of the wall. “I’ll take the knife,” Gator said as he stretched his hand out. “Yea good idea for you to hang onto it for now,” Wolf said as he handed Gator the knife.

“Hey wait there’s something else written on the back of Matt’s note,” Wolf said as he snatched the note from Gator. “What does it say?” Gator asked. “It says that within one week the entire town will be blown up,” Wolf said. “Great so I suggest that we get the hell out of here!” Gator shouted as he ran into the living room and grabbed the sniper rifle.

Wolf followed his friend and grabbed the ammo that Matt left for them. “Uh Gator we got a problem,” Wolf said. “What’s up?” Gator asked. “Well the ammo that Matt left for us, is in short supply,” Wolf said. “What do you mean?” Gator asked. “I mean that we don’t have that much ammo and well have to restock soon,” Wolf replied. Gator loaded up his sniper rifle then turned to Wolf and said, “Well manage with what we have. So you ready for this?” “I was born ready,” Wolf replied. With the ammo, weapons, and the cloths on their backs, the two friends set off on their treacherous journey through the city of death.

Wolf and Gator couldn’t even take three steps outside without getting ambushed by a horde of the living dead. “Ah great more zombies,” Gator said as the horde began to close in on them. “Well what do you expect? It’s a zombie apocalypse after all, so were bound to be attacked by zombies,” Wolf said through blasts of his shot gun. “I know, I was being sarcastic,” Gator said as he began shooting the zombies in front of him.

“Terrific I’m all out of ammo,” Wolf said angrily. “What?! How could you be out already?” Gator asked. “I don’t know, but I do know that we’d better get to a weapons shop,” Wolf said. “Good idea, there should be one about a mile past the Pizza Shop I think,” Gator said. “We better start moving before anymore zombies show up,” Wolf said.

Wolf and Gator reached the weapons shop just a few minutes after their last attack from the undead. “Huh we reached this place faster than I thought we would have,” Gator said. “Yea but those hordes we had to escape from didn’t make it too easy though. Well at least we can get more ammo,” Wolf said. Gator walked up grabbed the door’s handles, and started to pull. “Ah great it’s locked. Maybe there’s a spare key around here, Wolf look around, and I’ll watch your back. “There’s no need to look for a key Gator,” Wolf said as he began to back up into the empty street. “Wait what are you doing?” Gator asked as he shot a zombie starting to come after Wolf. “I’m going to kick down that door,” Wolf replied as he charged at the door. “Wait no you’re going get hurt!” Gator said but it was too late. Wolf had already thrown his foot through the glass door.

“Ah my leg! I got glass in my damn leg!” Wolf cried out as he rolled around on the side walk in pain. “Well duh the door is made out of glass, moron. At least you broke a hole to the lock,” Gator said as he reached his arm in the broken door and twisted the lock. “How’s your leg, you can still walk right?” Gator asked as he opened the door. “Ouch, yea I should be able to,” Wolf said as he limped over to the opened door.

“Alright let’s get what we need and get out, we don’t have much time, and I don’t know what or who could be in here,” Gator said as he grabbed ammo from a shelf in the far corner of the store. “Oooohhhh, this hurts!” Wolf moaned. “Don’t be such a Drama Queen. Here I found a First Aid kit and some paper towels, clean yourself up,” Gator said as he started to toss Wolf the supplies. But as Gator began to throw the first aid kit a strange voice came from out of the shadows. “Who are you?” The voice said.

Chapter 5

“Who are you?” the voice repeated only this time sounding more irritated. “We are Gator and Wolf,” Gator said as he pointed to himself and Wolf. “So who the hell are you?” Wolf asked trying to sound intimidating. “Who am I? I am Samantha,” the voice said as she walked out of the shadows. Samantha was about eighteen years old. She was tall, slim, and very beautiful with long dark brown hair and glowing blue eyes. She also had a series of scratches and soot up and down her arms and legs. “Hey put your tongue back in your mouth Wolf,” Gator said as he elbowed his friend. “Huh? Oh shut up Gator. So Samantha what happened to your arms and legs?” Wolf asked.

“My house caught on fire when the zombies invaded my town. Me and my brother, Jack, barley escaped with our lives. But our parents weren’t so lucky,” Samantha said as tears began forming in her eyes. “I’m sorry to hear that. I too lost someone who meant a great deal to me. Only I had to kill him,” Wolf said as he turned his head in shame. “What happened?” Samantha asked. “I don’t want to talk about it right now,” Wolf said quietly. “Wolf get down!” Gator shouted as he tackled Wolf to the ground. “What the hell” Wolf started to say but was quickly interrupted by the sound of a gunshot in a far corner of the room.

Gator jumped up and ran to the corner of the room were the gun was fired. “There you are,” Gator said as he pulled a small kid, about ten years old, from behind the stack of boxes. “Hey man let me go!” the kid yelled. “I don’t think so, you almost shot my friend!” Gator said as he pulled the hunting knife out from his back pocket and pressed it against the kid’s neck. “Let my brother go!” Samantha demanded as she grabbed a pistol from the counter behind her, and pointed it towards Gator’s head. “Okay that’s enough, Samantha drop the gun, and Gator let the kid go,” Wolf said as he pointed the empty shot gun in the direction of both Samantha and Gator. “You wouldn’t shoot me. You don’t have the balls or the ammunition,” Gator said with a sinister grin on his face. “Well bro I have one shot left, and I already shot someone close to me and if I have to then I’ll do it again,” Wolf said as he pulled out a spare shot gun shell from his back pocket. “Oh no their back!” Samantha screamed. Everyone turned to the windows of the gun store and saw a massive horde of zombies slowing coming towards them.

“Well have to work together,” the little boy said as he squeezed out from Gator’s arm. “Jacks right, if we don’t team up then we’ll never survive,” Samantha said. “Fine Jack you help me gather up some boxes. We’ll use them to block the door and windows. Wolf, you and Samantha gather up some ammo and fix your leg. The floor is covered in your blood,” Gator instructed.

“That’s probably what attracted them here in the first place,” Samantha said as she lifted up Wolf’s blood soaked pant leg. “So uh how bad does it look?” Wolf asked. “Well it’s not that bad just a few deep cuts, but you shouldn’t need any stitches for them. Here I’ll wrap it up for you,” Samantha said as she grabbed some gauze wrap from the First Aid kit that Gator had dropped before. “There we go, you should be just fine now,” Samantha said as she looked up at Wolf. “Thanks Samantha and I’m sorry about the whole I’ll shoot you and Gator thing,” Wolf said. “Don’t worry about Wolf, but if you ever threaten me with a gun again I will kill you, seriously,” Samantha with a serious look on her face.

“Hey guys do you think you could bring us some ammo?” Jack asked. “How about this, Wolf said as he walked over with a box of bullets for just about every kind of gun imaginable, you stand down so you won’t get hurt or killed, and I’ll take over for you.” “Just because I’m a kid, that doesn’t mean I’m not able to kill any zombies,” Jack said angrily. “It’s true Wolf, Jack has killed quite a few zombies while you were being patched up,” Gator said as he dug his hand into the box of bullets. “Uh guys the zombies are about to break through the barrier,” Samantha said.

“There’s too many of them of them, we got to get out of here!” Wolf said as he backed up against the counter. “Is there any way out of here Sam?” Gator asked. “Of course, we can just run out through the storage room that has a ladder that leads up to the roof,” Samantha said. “Well its better than nothing, we’d better get going,” Gator said as the zombies crashed through the boxes. “Come on guys their coming!” Jack shouted as he scurried up the ladder. “Jacks right, let’s go you guys,” Samantha said as grabbed more ammunition, and followed Jack up the ladder. “Were coming just don’t rush us!” Gator said. “Come on man we got to get out of her now,” Wolf said as he grabbed Gator and rushed towards the storage room ladder.

“Wolf help me block off this door,” Gator said as he pressed his body against the storage room door. Wolf acted fast as he grabbed box after box stacking them against the door. “Hurry Wolf the zombies, they feel like they’re trying to break the door down,” Gator said as he struggled to keep the door closed. “I’m trying but I can only go so fast,” Wolf said. “Maybe we can be of some help,” Samantha said as she climbed down the ladder. “Samantha you and your brother get back onto the roof we’ll be fine,” Gator said over the howling cries of the zombies. “Were not leaving you,” Jack said as he pushed against some of the boxes that were blocking the door.

Suddenly everything when quiet. “Do you hear that?” Jack asked. “No,” Everyone replied. “Exactly, so that must mean all of the zombies left,” Jack said excitingly. “Well I’m not sure about that, but I saw we should go up on the roof,” Wolf said. Suddenly the entire building filled with gun shots, loud yelling and explosions. “What’s going on out there?” Samantha asked as another explosion was heard. But before anyone could answer it when quiet. Deathly quiet.

Chapter 6

It felt like the silence went on for hours. No one would say a word, until they all heard yet another explosion. Only this explosion was right above the group of young survivors. Gator broke the long silence by saying, “Uh guys I think we should move.” “Why?” Jack asked. “Because the ceiling is falling,” Wolf said calmly. Sure enough the ceiling began growing cracks. “Were are we supposed to go? We can’t stay in here, and there could be zombies outside,” Samantha said.

But before anyone could answer her, a huge hole grew into the ceiling, followed by a man crashing through the floor. “Uuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhh” the man moaned. “It’s a zombie kill it!” Samantha and Jack screamed, as they both pointed their guns at the intruder ready to fire as soon as he moved. “Wait don’t shoot! He’s with of us,” Wolf said as he jumped into the direction of Samantha’s gun. “What are you talking about?” Samantha asked as she looked at Wolf as if he had gone insane.

“This is Matt, he’s a friend of ours,” Gator said as he helped Matt up. “Well that could have gone better,” Matt said as he dusted himself off. “It’s good to see you again Matt,” Wolf said. “It’s good to be back,” Matt replied. “So Matt what are you doing back here, I thought you said in your note that you couldn’t help us anymore?” Gator asked. “How did you even get here? There were zombies in every inch of the store,” Samantha added. “I’m glad you two asked, and I’ll be more than happy to explain,” Matt said.

Matt cleared his throats, and then started to explain his story. “So there I was, in the heart of the city. I had just begun to craft these grenades of my own design, Matt said as he pulled out a bag full of misshapen explosives, there were at least fifty or more. I had just finished my last grenade when I heard it.” “Heard hat?” Jack asked with anticipation. “Well son, I heard the cries of a massive zombie horde,” Matt said as he put the bag of grenades away. “What did you do?” Jack asked. “Well maybe if you didn’t interrupt me every five seconds I could tell you,” Matt said sounding irritated. Wolf and gator laughed under their breaths, as Samantha shot both of them a dirty look. But that only made Wolf and Gator laugh even harder. “Please continue,” Wolf said in between laughs.

“There were zombies everywhere, and all I had to defend me was a bag of untested grenades and a pistol low on ammo. Now I wasn’t quite ready to test the grenades just yet so I did what any other survivor would do. I fought all the zombies that I could until I ran out of ammo. As I shot my last bullet I threw my gun at one of the zombies. That seemed to distract them for a few seconds. Then I grabbed a nearby street sing and just swung it like a bat,” Matt said as he swung his arms like a baseball bat. “So then what happened?” Gator asked. “Well I climbed up the side of the building, and threw a grenade down on the roof, and I came crashing down here,” Matt said. “Wait I thought you said you didn’t want to test the grenades just yet,” Samantha said. “I did, but I thought that I had to test them sooner or later. I picked sooner and now I’m here,” Matt said.

“Wow that’s amazing,” Jack cried out. “Yea, I don’t believe it. I need hard evidence in order to believe you,” Samantha said. “Well then I’m more than happy to show you. Just follow me,” Matt said as he began to climb the ladder leading towards the roof. “See here it is,” Matt said pointing at a blood stained street sign. Wolf kneeled down at the sign and pressed two fingerers against the sing and said, “Yup that’s real blood. Ain’t no way Matt could have faked this.” “Ain’t? Ain’t is not a word honey,” Samantha said. “Haw haw,” both Gator and Jack laughed. “Oh real mature Gator. You know I’d expect that from Jack, and I only knew him for about half an hour, but you. I expected more from you,” Wolf said angrily.

“What are you gonna do, shoot me?” Gator asked. “Oh I got half a mind buddy,” Wolf snapped. “Oh really half a mind? I always thought you had a quarter of a mind,” Gator said laughing at his own joke. “That’s it!” Wolf said as he aimed his gun at Gator’s head. “Hey, hey, hey! Calm down,” Matt said as he grabbed Wolf. “Would you boys stop it, you’re making Jack cry!” Samantha said as she went over to calm down her crying brother.

“What’s up with you?” Matt asked. “It’s Gator, he just pisses me off. Always thinking he’s smarter and better than me,” Wolf replied through gritted teeth. “I don’t think its Gator that’s the problem,” Matt said. “Oh, then what is the problem then?” Wolf asked as he angrily glared at Gator. “I think you guys are hungry,” Matt replied. Wolf felt his stomach tighten with hunger as Matt said those words. “I’m starving! I can’t even remember the last time I’ve eaten something. It feels like I’ve been out here for days!” Wolf cried out.

“Dude it’s only been a few hours since the apocalypse started,” Matt said. “So do you have food?” Wolf asked eagerly. “Uh no I don’t, sorry. It looks like you and someone else will have to find some food, Matt said. “What why me? I don’t want to go out there. I don’t know if you noticed but there are cannibalistic freaks out there!” Wolf said. “Because I said so,” Matt said as he towered over Wolf in an attempt to intimidate him. “Alright fine I’ll go. But because I want to and not because you told me to,” Wolf said. “Hey Samantha you and Wolf need to go and find some food,” Matt said. “What, why are we leaving?” Samantha asked. “Its either you go with me to find some food, well just starve to death,” Wolf said.

“Alright fine I’ll go, Samantha said as she got up from Jack, let’s go load up on ammo Wolf. Wolf? Wolf where are you?” “Down here,” Wolf cried out from below. Wolf had already climbed down the ladder and began reloading his shot gun. “Don’t forget to take extra shells,” Samantha said as she climbed down the ladder after Wolf. “I will Sam,” Wolf said as he grabbed a spare box of shot gun shells. “C’mon on we’d better start moving, we got a lot of walking ahead of us,” Samantha said as she walked out of the building. “Hey uh listen, I’m sorry about what happened back on the roof,” Wolf said. “It’s no big deal, Jack has calmed down, and you and Gator aren’t at each other throats anymore,” Samantha said.

“Well not at the moment. Wait do you hear that?” Wolf asked as he stopped in the middle of the street. “No, what is it?” Samantha asked as she got her gun ready to fire. “Exactly there is nothing out here!” Wolf said. “Wouldn’t that be a good thing? Samantha asked as she put her gun away. “Normally that would be, but at a time like this, I think it would be a very bad sign,” Wolf said as he looked around the city nervously.

Chapter 7

“Holly molly look at all the zombies out there!” Jack cried out as he looked over the edge of the building. “Wow now that’s a horde,” Gator said as he set up his sniper rifle and began to shoot random zombies. “Dude what are you doing?” Matt tasked. “There is nothing else to do except shoot the undead,” Gator replied angrily. “Okay calm down, look at Jack, his only sister is out in a city full of flesh eating zombies and he’s cool as ice,” Matt said. “Wait a minute I just remembered something,” Jack said jumping up from the spot he was sitting on. “Remembered what?” Gator asked as he reloaded his sniper rifle. “I remembered that me and Samantha have cell phones,” Jack said as he pulled out a small black box from his back pocket. “Great we can call them and see what’s taking so long,” Matt said. Jack quickly dialed Samantha’s number. “Well did you get through yet?” Gator asked. “No not yet Mr.Gator, oh wait here we go, hi Samantha” Jack replied.

Hi Jack, everything okay?” Samantha asked. “Yea everything is fine, I just wanted to call and see when are you coming back,” Jack said. “We ran into some trouble, but don’t worry its nothing that me and Wolf can’t handle,” Samantha said over the screams, and gun shots from Wolf. “What happened?” Jack asked sounding concerned. “Just a few zombie hordes came after us, and were trapped in an old Burger King,” Samantha said. “Get back you cannibals!” Wolf cried out in the background. “I got to go, but I’ll call you back in the morning. Oh and before I go Jack, reach into my bag. Inside you’ll find some chips that I forgot about, you guys can eat that. I love you,” Samantha said as she hung up the phone. “So what’s going on?” Gator asked. “Sam and Mr. Wolf are being held up in a Burger King,” Jack said with a scared look on his face.

“Don’t worry Jack, Samantha will be just fine. I know that Wolf won’t let your sister die,” Matt said reassuringly. “That’s all fine and dandy but what are we going to do for food?” Gator asked. “Well Samantha said in her bag there were some chips,” Jack said as he grabbed his sister’s bag. “Great what kind?” Matt asked. “Uh plain and BBQ,” Jack replied. “Sounds good to me, let’s eat,” Gator said.

“I think…that was…the last one,” Wolf said breathlessly as the last zombie fell to the ground. “Good work Wolf, so you hungry?” Samantha asked as she began to walk towards the restaurants kitchen. “I am but why don’t you let me cook, so you could relax,” Wolf said. “Aw aren’t you a little gentlemen. While you do that I’m going to go freshen up,” Samantha said. “So what do you want?” Wolf hollered out. “Whopper, and medium fries and a coke,” Samantha said as she walked into the bathroom.

Wolf began to quickly make the dinner for both him and Samantha. “Smells good,” Samantha said as she walked out of the bathroom about ten minutes after Wolf started making the food. “Thanks but it’s not quiet done yet.” Wolf said. Twenty-five minutes have passed since Wolf began cooking. “Hey Wolf it’s been thirty-five minutes are you done yet?” Samantha asked. “Yea I just finished,” Wolf said as he brought the tray of food out to the table were Samantha was sitting at.

“Okay so one Whopper, medium fries and a Coke am I correct?” Wolf asked. “Yes you are, thank you,” Samantha replied. After Wolf dropped off Samantha’s food, he went back to the counter and picked up his food. Then walked over to a separate table that was across the room away from Samantha. “Hey don’t you want to sit next to me instead of by yourself?” Samantha asked. “You mean you don’t mind sitting with a guy like me?” Wolf asked sounding surprised. “Of course, why wouldn’t I?” Samantha asked.

“It’s just that girls have never really liked me. Well actually it’s not just girls, it’s almost everyone,” Wolf said as he finished chewing on his whopper. “What do you mean?” Samantha asked. “Well I mean some people take a look at me and say, hey look at this looser he has no friends, or my personal favorite, your such an ogre! They judge me before they even get to know me,” Wolf said quietly.

Samantha was speechless. “Are you okay?” Wolf asked. “Yea I’m fine, but I’m sure there were some girls out there that would ask you out or something like that,” Samantha said. “Well there was this one dance that I went to for my church, but uh the entire dance was girl’s choice,” Wolf started to say. “What you mean no one asked you to dance?” Samantha asked. “No, it was girl’s choice,” Wolf repeated. “I’m not going to stand for this,” Samantha said angrily. “What are you doing?” Wolf asked. “I’m going to dance with you on behalf of all the girls that rejected you,” Samantha said as she stood up and offered Wolf her hand. Wolf just stared at her then grabbed a hand full of fries and shoved them into his mouth nervously. “C’mon Wolf, it’s just one dance,” Samantha said as she grabbed Wolf’s hand and pulled him up.

“Okay but I should warn you I have two left feet,” Wolf said. “Oh don’t worry you’ll be fine,” Samantha said. Wolf and Samantha began to slow dance over the tile floor for what seemed to be hours. “You’re quite good on your feet,” Samantha said. “Thanks, but I’m just trying to not step on yours,” Wolf said. “Yea please don’t step on my feet,” Samantha said laughing. As the two stopped laughing at Wolf’s joke, they began to stare deeply into each other’s eyes. “Wolf, are you thinking what I’m thinking?” Samantha asked quietly as she moved closer to Wolf. “I don’t know but I hope I’m right,” Wolf said as he moved just as close to Samantha. “Well then why don’t we find out,” Samantha said as she went to kiss Wolf.

The two were just inches away from kissing until they were quickly interrupted by a raging zombie that rushed into the restaurant. “Ah crap not another one,” Samantha said with disbelief. “I’ll take this one, just hold that thought for a second” Wolf said as he shot the zombie in the head. The zombie quickly fell to the floor with a thud, as blood flowed out of its head wound. “So, uh you still want to continue that conversation?” Wolf asked. “No, I’m sorry it’s getting late, and we should get to bed now,” Samantha said. “Yea I guess we should. Besides I think there are more zombies coming we’d better get to the roof,” Wolf said.

The two team mates began to quickly rush towards the stairs that were leading up to the roof. “Finally made it,” Wolf said with a sigh of relief. “Hey Wolf take a look over at the edge,” Samantha said. “Oh well that’s not good at all,” Wolf said as he glanced over the edge of the roof. There were zombies surrounding every inch of the building. “Great now what are we going to do?” Samantha asked worriedly. “Well as for now I say we should get some sleep, then we can call for back up in the morning,” Wolf said as he prepared a spot to sleep.

Right before Wolf fell asleep, he looked over and noticed Samantha was shivering furiously. “Here take my jacket,” Wolf said as he took off the jacket and placed it on top of Samantha. “Thank you Wolf, but what about you?” Samantha asked. “Don’t worry about me, I’ll be just fine. Good night,” Wolf said. “Night,” Samantha replied sweetly.

Chapter 8

“I hope Wolf and Samantha are okay,” Gator said. “I think we should go out and look for them,” Jack said. “Then do what bring them all the way back to here?” Gator asked sounding irritated. “Now, now Gator calm down, maybe the lad is on to something,” Matt said as he patted Jack’s head. “Alright fine then, Jack what’s your idea?” Gator asked.

“Well I think if we find a car then we can just drive through the zombies and rescue Mr. Wolf and Samantha,” Jack said. “Ah ha ha ha! Wait that’s not a bad idea,” Gator said. “Really? You really mean it Mr. Gator?” Jack asked happily. “I do mean it,” Gator replied. “That’s great and all but we have just one little problem,” Matt said. “What’s that?” Jack asked. “We don’t have a car,” Matt said as he threw a grenade down at the horde of zombies below them. “Well I have a car, but it’s about five miles away, and it’s out of gas,” Gator said. “Well think of something,” Matt said reassuringly.

“Rise and shine Wolfy, we got a big day ahead of us if we want to make it back to the others,” Samantha said. “Uh what? What’s going on? Are we under attack?!” Wolf asked as he jumped up with the shot gun ready to fire. “No silly,” Samantha said as she kissed wolf on the check. Wolf was surprised at what just happened. “What the hell are you smoking?” Wolf asked as he rubbed his eyes. “I’m not smoking anything, I’m just really happy today. C’mon we have to get going,” Samantha said. “I noticed you’re still wearing my jacket,” Wolf said smiling “Oh well do you want it back?” Samantha asked. “No, you can borrow it for now. But before I forget what happened to all the zombies?” Wolf asked as he looked over the edge of the building.

“I don’t know maybe they all went some ware else,” Samantha said cheerfully. “You seem a little too cheerful,” Wolf said. “Well at times like this when you’re alive you deserve to be very happy Wolfy,” Samantha said. “Yea you have a point, wait did you just call me Wolfy?” Wolf asked sounding confused. “Yes, yes I did,” Samantha replied laughing. “Weird chick, one minute she hates me and is ready to kill me, the next she is all happy and nice to me,” Wolf thought as he followed Samantha down the stairs.

“Wait we should leave a note,” Wolf said before they left the restaurant. “Why would we do that?” Samantha asked. “In case Gator finds this place, then he’ll find the note and know were okay,” Wolf said. “Alright then but hurry up, we need to get going before they come back,” Samantha said. Wolf began to franticly write a note on a napkin in hopes that his friends would find it. “Done,” Wolf said as he placed the note on a table. “Let’s go then,” Samantha said as she rushed out the door. “I’m coming, I’m coming,” Wolf said following Samantha.

“So what are we going to do Mr. Matt?” Jack asked. “I don’t know Jack, I just don’t know,” Matt replied quietly. “But you always know what to do!” Jack shouted angrily. “Now calm down Jack, I’ll tell you what were going to do,” gator said as he spread war paint over his face. “Were did you get that war paint?” Matt asked. “That doesn’t matter now. But what does matter is the fact that Wolf and Samantha, our friends, are out there. Probably getting chased by those cannibalistic freaks. We don’t even know if their alive or not. So I say we go out there, guns loaded, then find and rescue them. Now then who’s with me?!” Gator shouted. “I’m in, lets kick some zombie ass!” matt said. “What about you Jack?” Gator asked. Jack looked down at his feet then looked back up and said, “I’m in to save my sister.” “Alright then let’s go!” Gator said as he climbed down the ladder.

Chapter 9

“I can’t believe this,” Wolf said as he looked around the destroyed city. “What’s that sweetie?” Samantha asked. “There are no zombies out here,” Wolf replied. “Well I guess that will give us time to find the other,” Samantha said.

****

“C’mon keep running!” Gator hollered as he and the others were being by the horde of zombies previously surrounding the gun store. “I can’t keep running, my legs are about to give out,” Jack cried out. “Don’t worry Jack I got you!” Matt said as he turned around. “I got your back Matt,” gator said as he began shooting the zombies in front of Matt and Jack, “There’s too many of them!” Matt shouted. “I’m almost all out of ammo!” Gator exclaimed. “I have an idea but you’re not going to like it Gator,” Matt said. “What is it?” Gator asked as he hit a zombie in head with the butt of his gun. “Take Jack and run I’ll hold them off,” Matt said.

Gator knew there was no time to argue so he just followed Matt’s instruction by grabbed Jack then running. “Good bye Mr. Matt,” Jack hollered as he fled with Gator. “Alright zombies, now it’s my turn,” Matt said as he pulled out a counseled machete. Matt began to slice each and every zombie, but there were far too many to fight alone. “I don’t want to do this but it looks like I’ve got no choice,” Matt said as he pulled out an odd shaped explosive. As a zombie bit down on Matt’s arm tearing it off, Matt activated the explosive. “I will not die, and return a cannibalistic freak. THIS IS FOR MY FRIENDS!” Matt hollered as he threw the explosive on the ground.

The second that the bomb landed on the ground a white flashing light appeared and swallowed everything in its path, followed by an ear shattering boom. The explosion took out everything within a two mile radius. Luckily for Gator and Jack, they escaped behind a building and hid inside a trash can, blocking the explosive blast. “Oh no, please tell me he didn’t do what I think he did,” Gator said as he rushed out of the trash can. Once Gator reached the site, he was shocked at what he saw.

“What is it? What’s going on Mr. Gator?” Jack asked as he started to follow Gator. “No don’t come any farther Jack. There’s nothing here but a big burnt ditch,” Gator said. But that was only half true. Inside the ditch there were burnt bodies and a burnt skeleton missing an arm. The burnt skeleton had a name tag attached to it that said Matt. “C’mon on Jack we’d better get going and find the others,” Gator said quietly. “You okay Mr. Gator?” Jack asked. “Yea, I’m fine,” Gator lied.

“Why don’t you try and call your brother?” Wolf asked. “I can’t my phone is dead Wolfy,” Samantha said. “Then we’d better shoot it before it comes back to life and kill us,” Wolf laughed. “Haw haw that’s real funny,” Samantha said sarcastically. “I know that’s why I said it. But it’s time to be serious for a second. I forgot to tell you that we only have six days to get to the edge of the city. At the edge of the city there are boats that will take survivors to a deserted island. If we don’t get there then we’ll get blown up,” Wolf said. “What?!” Samantha shouted. “Ssssshhhhh! Keep your voice down we don’t know who or what could be here,” Wolf said in a hushed whisper. “Well, well, well, what have we got here? Well if it isn’t little Wolf,” A strange voice said from behind wolf. “No it can’t be, Wolf said as he spun around, It is you, I don’t believe it.”

Chapter 10

“Wolfy who is this guy?” Samantha asked. “This is my child hood bully, Earl,” Wolf said angrily. Earl was a short and slim man, about twenty-two years old. Just like Wolf said, Earl had treated both him and Gator as if they were garbage since the third grade. “So Earl what have you been doing, being a homeless bum?” Wolf asked. “No actually I’m a very successful scientist, or at least I was until all these damn zombies came,” Earl said. “Excuse me, Samantha I need to talk to Earl alone for a minute,” Wolf said. “Sure thing Wolfy,” Samantha said as she walked off and started shooting some of the zombies behind Wolf and Earl.

“So what’s on your mind Wolfy?” Earl asked. “Okay first of all don’t call me that. And second of all we should get this straight. I don’t like you and you don’t like me but I say we should settle our differences and work together in order to survive,” Wolf said. “Well that sounds just fine to me. But I noticed Gator and a little kid running around,” Earl said. “That’s Jack! Where did you see them?!” Samantha shouted. “I Saw them walking down the road. It’s about a two day walk,” Earl said.

“Two days, we need to get there now!” Wolf shouted. “Rrroooaaarrr!” Screamed a horde of zombies. “Oh great now you’ve done it Wolf!” Earl shouted. “Oops sorry,” Wolf replied. “Sorry? Sorry! You just attracted a horde of zombies and all you can say is sorry?!” Earl said angrily. “Knock it off you two and start running. We might just be able to meet the others,” Samantha said as she began to shoot some of the attacking zombies. “Well talk about his later Wolf,” Earl said.

****

“Ah great another horde is after us,” Gator said. “We can’t keep running way from all these s zombies, we should find shelter,” Jack said. “C’mon I have an idea,” Gator said as he picked up a baseball bat from the ground. “What are you doing Mr. Gator?” Jack asked. “Something that should have been done a long time ago,” Gator said as he viciously swung the bat at the attacking horde of zombies. As Gator started to smash the zombie’s heads in Jack decided to scout ahead and find shelter.

Within minutes the entire horde was dead. Tired and covered in blood Gator knew he had won. “Not bad huh Jack?” Gator asked. There was no response. “Hey Jack you there? Oh no,” Gator said as he turned around and noticed Jack had disappeared.
